A commonly cited limitation of automated storage systems is their limited capacity. AutoStore today announced the global availability of its R5+ Robot, which it said will enable warehouses to manage larger items. The R5+ can handle bins up to 425 mm (16.7 in.), the tallest bins available in the AutoStore system. Such bins were previously available only as a premium feature for AutoStore B1 Robot installations.

AutoStore R5+
AutoStore said the R5+ will give its customers “the same confidence and first-class performance that has been proven by the R5 for over a decade – with a significant addition.”
The maximum automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) grid height for AutoStore customers using the R5+ with 425-mm bins will be slightly higher than a grid with the R5 using 330-mm (12.9-in.) bins. This will create a grid composed of 14 layers of bins that is around 6,044 mm (19.8 ft.) tall.
The company claimed that its new offering is economically competitive for companies in a wider variety of markets, such as footwear, semiconductors, and other similar applications.
AutoStore added that the R5+ will provide fast and reliable service, allowing its customers to benefit from a warehouse system that is capable of continuous operation.
