5 Autonomous Trucking Companies Hauling Along

While a lot of the buzz around autonomous vehicles has focused on ride hailing, there is plenty of innovation happening in the autonomous trucking space as well.

Robotics companies working on autonomous trucks continue to take on new partnerships as they develop their technologies.

The news of Argo.AI's closure late last month hit the robotics world hard.

The Pittsburgh-based autonomous vehicle company, which was backed by both Ford and Volkswagen, wasn't meeting expectations for several factors, including the economic downturn and a lack of funding from new investors, reported Pittsburgh Inno. The remains of the company will be absorbed by Ford and VW.

Argo's closure is certainly a blow to the robotics industry, but thankfully there are still companies working on advancing autonomous driving. We wanted to share a few interesting companies working in the autonomous trucking space. That market made more than $900 million last year and is estimated to grow more than 17% between 2022 and 2028, according to Global Market Insights.

Trucking partnerships continue to flourish

Transportation logistics companies have partnered with robotics providers developing the technology to not only address labor shortages but also advance overall productivity. Trucks are being remote controlled or are operating autonomously in various parts of the United States and the world.

From Waymo and Embark Trucks to Locomation and Aurora, players in the space are continuing to advance their businesses to help to make driverless technologies more commonplace. While it is still early days for the industry, the technology continues to get better as these vehicles log more miles and take in more data.
