Advanced Construction Robotics has released its rebar carrying robot at the popular construction industry expo.

Advanced Construction Robotics yesterday launched its newest construction robot at ConExpo in Las Vegas. IronBOT helps construction crews lift, carry, and place up to 5,000-lb. bundles of rebars, the Pittsburgh-based company said.

The robot was designed to work together with Advanced Construction’s rebar tying robot, TyBOT, which Robotics 24/7’s reported on last year.

IronBOT was recently used as part of the construction of the Port St. Lucie West Boulevard Bridge in Port St. Lucie, FL. The work was done by Shelby Erectors, a labor subcontractor out of Reddick, FL.

IronBOT and TyBOT help cut down on construction time

Shelby Erectors originally estimated it would take 14 days to complete the rebar installation process. With IronBOT, the company was able to do get it done in seven.

Shelby Erectors is an Advanced Construction Robotics’ Integration Partner and had already been using TyBOT for over two years.

In total, IronBOT placed 147,032 lb. of rebar and TyBOT completed 58,068 ties throughout the duration of the project.

“We were impressed that we could slash our rebar installation schedule in half. We are actively looking for new projects to incorporate the BOT Bundle in our operations,” said Jack Nix, chief operating officer of Shelby Erectors, Inc.

Danielle Proctor, CEO of Advanced Construction Robotics, said she was encouraged by the positive results of the project.

“I am so excited to see our initial prediction of cutting schedules by at least 50% come to fruition on IronBOT’s maiden voyage. This was a perfect example of how field teams, working alongside our technology, can form a “modern crew” to unleash disruptive productivity levels,” she said.

“This robotic revolution provides innovative construction firms the ability to become game-changers by adopting and putting their ‘modern crew’ to work,” she added.

Brayman Construction and Advantage Steel to offer complete BOT Bundle

Advanced Construction Robotics also announced that Brayman Construction Corp. and Advantage Steel are the only companies currently offering Advanced Construction Robotics’ BOT Bundle Solution. The bundle was created as part of the company’s new Certified Innovator Program.

Certified Innovators have dedicated crews that have gone through hands-on training on how to optimize operations alongside the BOT Bundle and incorporate the technology in their installation pricing, the company said.

“We are excited to work together to show the construction industry how this adoption of robotics at an organizational and cultural level can lead to overall results that are impossible to ignore,” said Zach Rosswog, General Manager of Advantage Steel and Construction.

Tim Tyler,  a vice president at Brayman Construction noted that “technology is the changing the way we approach construction.”

“It helps contractors like us cope with shrinking labor forces and growing demand. We become more productive, efficient, and safer when we pair this technology with an innovative mindset,” he added.
