Ambi Robotics and DWFritz Automation to Build Custom Picking Systems for Supply Chain Customers

Partners plan to build customized AI-powered robots for pick-and-pack fulfillment operations.

Ambi Robotics, which uses AI and simulation for highly dexterous robots, has chosen DWFritz Automation to manufacture custom pick-and-pack systems for e-commerce fulfillment.

Ambi Robotics Inc. yesterday announced that it is partnering with DWFritz Automation to build custom pick-and-pack robots for supply chain customers. Ambi Robotics uses artificial intelligence and simulation to power dexterous robots, and DWFritz is a global provider of systems for high-volume manufacturing.

“Our partnership with Ambi Robotics will help customers bring efficiencies of scale to their manufacturing capabilities while improving throughput and lowering costs,” stated Mike Fritz, CEO of DWFritz. “By leveraging our global supply chain, technology partnerships, precision automation, and advanced manufacturing capabilities, we can support the rapidly expanding demand for Ambi’s warehouse automation products.”

Established in 1973, DWFritz Automation designs, builds, and supports engineer-to-order automation systems and high-speed, non-contact metrology products. The Wilsonville, Ore.-based company, which has offices in France and China, also provides build-to-print manufacturing capabilities to clients.

DWFritz to enable rapid AmbiSort deployment

Founded in 2018 as Ambidexterous Laboratories, Ambi Robotics said its systems can help scale e-commerce operations to meet demand while empowering humans to work smarter. The Emeryville, Calif.-based company’s AmbiOS configurable operating system uses Dex-Net simulation-to-reality technology to operate robots for supply chain customers such as Pitney Bowes Inc.

AmbiSort enables robots to sort and pack millions of unique parcels, such as boxes, polybags, and envelopes, into destination containers more than 50% faster than manual systems, claimed Ambi Robotics.

DWFritz said its core capabilities, including precision assembly, process automation, and inspection, will allow Ambi Robotics to rapidly deploy AI-powered sorting systems into existing customer workflows with greater returns on investment (ROI) and improved operational efficiencies.

Ambi Robotics said its systems can receive items from conveyors, chutes, or bins and can successfully stow into bins, totes or bags, integrating with each customer's existing workflow.
