Arendai Inc. today announced that its Harmony 1.0 Interoperability software system for autonomous mobile robots, or AMRs, takes advantage of several Intel products.
Harmony 1.0 allows customers to manage multiple AMRs from several vendors under one system. It is designed to be used by logistics and warehouse operators and is compatible with VDA 5050 and other interoperability standards.
In addition to providing interoperability capabilities, the software also allows customers to make digital twins and takes advantage of edge computing to expand the AMRs’ capabilities, according to Arendai.
Using Intel Insights and Intel Smart Edge
The San Diego, Calif.-based company said it is using Intel’s Edge Insights software development kit to build and deploy its mobile robot applications. It is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS 2). Additionally, it is using Intel’s Smart Edge computing platform for “deploying edge computing applications and global management and orchestration services for AMRs in an environment.”
The four-year-old company argued that Harmony 1.0 exemplifies the power of edge computing because it offloads computation-intensive tasks from the robot to the edge at low latency.
“Our Harmony product is critical for scalable growth and increased ROI for the logistics centers of the future, as it provides holistic optimization from a fully integrated solution while eliminating paperwork and human errors, said Walter Buga, Arendai CEO, in a statement. “Intel EI for AMR and Smart Edge enables Harmony to accelerate deployment of customer applications, using pre-validated, and pre-integrated solutions by reducing implementation and development time.”
“The edge plays an essential role in converging the AI inference from AMRs, global trajectory planning, and predictive maintenance,” said Christine Boles, vice president and general manager of federal and industrial solutions at Intel Corp. “This collaboration enables a software framework for AMR control and orchestration through the edge, providing interoperability and orchestration across diverse AMR products.
“Intel Smart Edge and the Edge Insights for Autonomous Mobile Robots are providing the Arendai solution with an edge-native platform for managing microservices, as well as a software stack for building mobile robot applications — all optimized on Intel hardware,” Boles added.
Arendai at AMR and Logistics Week in Boston
The company is currently exhibiting at the Association for Advancing Automation's AMR and Logistics Week in Boston at Booth 919. Buga also participated in a panel focused on warehouse and manufacturing automation titled “From the Warehouse to the Factory Floor and Beyond: Trends in Mobile Robotics and Automation.”
