A commonly cited limitation of automated storage systems is their limited capacity. AutoStore today announced the global availability of its R5+ Robot, which it said will enable warehouses to manage larger items. The R5+ can handle bins up to 425 mm (16.7 in.), the tallest bins available in the AutoStore system. Such bins were previously available only as a premium feature for AutoStore B1 Robot installations.
“Sometimes the simplest solutions make the biggest transformation,” said Carlos Fernández, chief product pfficer at AutoStore. “We continue to innovate to help retailers improve the customer experience they offer.”
“If there is one thing we've witnessed over the past two years, it is that the retail landscape, particularly in regard to e-commerce, has evolved to demand precision and speed,” he added. “We're committed to supporting our customers in becoming even more competitive in high-throughput applications.”
AutoStore said the R5+ will give its customers “the same confidence and first-class performance that has been proven by the R5 for over a decade – with a significant addition.”
The maximum automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) grid height for AutoStore customers using the R5+ with 425-mm bins will be slightly higher than a grid with the R5 using 330-mm (12.9-in.) bins. This will create a grid composed of 14 layers of bins that is around 6,044 mm (19.8 ft.) tall.
The company claimed that its new offering is economically competitive for companies in a wider variety of markets, such as footwear, semiconductors, and other similar applications.
AutoStore added that the R5+ will provide fast and reliable service, allowing its customers to benefit from a warehouse system that is capable of continuous operation.
Founded in 1996, AutoStore said it invented and continues to pioneer cube storage automation, the densest product/inventory storage available.
More than 750 of the company's systems are installed in over 40 countries over a wide range of industries. AutoStore's network of integrator partners designs, installs, and services its systems.
The Nedre Vats, Norway-based company has offices in Oslo and in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Korea, and Japan.
