Brain Corp. today announced that its BrainOS-powered fleet of mobile robots has covered 100 billion sq. ft. (9.2 billion sq. m). In doing so, 6.8 million hours have been given back to employees and operations managers, allowing them to focus on customer experience and other high-value tasks, claimed the company.

Brain Corp said it provides artificial intelligence driving more than 16,000 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in commercial public spaces, the largest fleet of its kind in the world. The San Diego, Calif.-based company said global OEM partners use its BrainOS cloud-connected platform to create scalable, self-driving robots that end customers use to clean floors, move inventory, and sense environmental data.
Where robots are spreading
Fortune 500 brands across multiple verticals benefit from the growing portfolio of BrainOS-powered robots, said Brain Corp. The company also offers privacy, safety, and efficiency tools intended to make managing and scaling automation easier.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that 4 million Americans quit their jobs in July 2021. Harvard Business Review cited a study that found that, in general, resignation rates were higher among employees who worked in fields that had experienced extreme increases in demand due to the pandemic.
From Oct. 1, 2020, to Oct. 1, 2021, AMR usage increased across a number of industry sectors, with several seeing dramatic year-over-year growth, said Brain Corp. It cited the following increases in square feet covered autonomously:
- Retail stores: +40%
- Airports: +69%
- Shopping malls: +113%
- Education: +426%
- Hospitals: +2,500%
AI a differentiator, says Brain Corp
While Brain Corp’s initial fleet grew mainly in retail environments, it noted that increasing deployments in other sectors reflect the ability of BrainOS-powered robots to learn the key dynamics of new environments. The company described it as a “critical factor” in the ongoing advancement of its technology.
Operating AMRs in new, varying environments requires advanced AI software and sensors to ensure high levels of performance and safety, all while prioritizing security and data protection, said Brain.
The company also said robots using BrainOS comply with all applicable privacy regulations, processing data exclusively for navigation and operational support without any additional data sources that could identify a person.
