Cogniteam today announced that its Nimbus cloud-based robotics development and deployment platform now supports the NVIDIA Jetson edge platform. The Petach Tikva, Israel-based company said Nimbus allows cloud-enabled deployments to use NVIDIA's edge artificial intelligence technology for the first time.

Cogniteam said it has been working with top companies on robotic mapping, navigation, and autonomous decision making. The company said Nimbus’ packaging of field-tested software, such as sensors and AI capabilities, is based on over a decade of its work with enterprise businesses.

More customers are moving to NVIDIA’s GPU-accelerated technologies that can be developed and deployed through the cloud, said Cogniteam.

The Nimbus drag-and-drop platform enables software and hardware teams to work in parallel, cutting robotic project development time by up to 80%, Cogniteam said.

Rapid uptime for cameras, spatial awareness sensors, and other advanced technologies usually take a large portion of development time and budget. Now, any developer can instantly upload to assets around the globe, thanks to cloud-based deployment, according to Cogniteam.

Nimbus’ ease of use means that basic programming could be accomplished with minimal experience, the company said. Nimbus can cut development time, not only for large enterprises, but also for any organization that wants to develop a quick prototype to better understand the business implications of a potential product.

As more customers move to Nimbus to take advantage of their NVIDIA integrations, they can simulate tests for the robots in various environments. Once deployed, teams can remotely update drivers and firmware, using a single platform to deploy a scalable fleet of useful robots, said Cogniteam.

NVIDIA and ROS support

The latest NVIDIA Isaac release includes support for the Robot Operating System (ROS) developer community. NVIDIA has released new Isaac GEMs, hardware-accelerated software packages that make it easier for ROS developers to build high-performance AI-enabled robots on the Jetson platform.

Software developers can now install advanced AI algorithms from NVIDIA Isaac ROS GEMs and standard ROS packages in just a few clicks, said NVIDIA and Cogniteam. The cloud-based approach allows teams to collaborate anywhere around the world, they added.

“We’ve been synchronizing ROS and other third-party integrations since the rollout of the Nimbus platform,” saud Dr. Yehuda Elmaliah, co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam. “The new capabilities of Isaac ROS GEMs ushers in a new era of streamlined development, testing, and deployment.”

“Pulling from open source to commercial libraries, developers can work harmoniously to test AI algorithms without the worries of compatibility hassles,” he said.

“This allowed us to begin addressing complex development challenges nearly immediately, without reinventing the wheel,” said Gal Frenkel, co-founder and CEO of RoboDeck. “We worked with Cogniteam to implement their industry-tested sensor technologies with NVIDIA’s advanced algorithms and ROS capabilities. Nimbus gave us a powerful investor-ready prototype way ahead of schedule, getting us better prepared for production.”

Cogniteam offers users the ability to try Nimbus on their laptops.
