Ava Robotics has received recognition from analyst firm Gartner for improving workplace and remote productivity, security, and quality of life with its mobile service robots.

From factories and warehouses to the office, mobile robots promise to improve people's productivity and quality of life. Ava Robotics Inc. last week announced that it was mentioned as an inovator in the 2022 “Gartner Emerging Technologies: Tech Innovators in Smart Robotics” report.

Ava Robotics develops, builds, and sells robots for telepresence, security, and disinfection in the workplace. The Cambridge, Mass.-based company, whose founders have technical experience from iRobot Corp., said its technology “emphasizes user experience, safety, and autonomous mobility to empower people while advancing business operations and access.”

Robots to support business goals

Robots are moving to an “inflection point” of wider market acceptance for applications including retail, facilities management, and remote collaboration, claimed Ava Robotics.

In addition, it said mobile service robots offer greater human control over workflows, supporting broader business goals including:

  • Reducing work travel expenses and enabling hybrid work
  • Prioritizing staff resources
  • Expanding sales and marketing reach through remote site visits
  • Advancing customer experience and reach
  • Improving overall operations and safety within a variety of buildings and facilities
  • Supporting sustainability and decarbonizing efforts
  • Enhancing videoconferencing abilities through autonomous mobility

Telepresence offers flexibility, value

Telepresence and service robots can not only respond to customer needs, but also provide data to anticipate them, said Ava Robotics. They can allow an unlimited number of remote attendees in the decision-making process and extend the sales team's reach, it said.

In addition, telepresence robots can “support quality customer experiences through mobile and enhanced sales and education processes,” said the MassRobotics member.

For instance, Hillrom, a leader in connected healthcare, serves executives at large hospitals and healthcare systems. Accommodating schedules for on-site visits, even for small groups, is often challenging.

With Ava Telepresence Robots, Hillrom's sales team offered a more flexible way for these executives to be on site for key presentations and demonstrations. Initially focused on using Ava independently, the team recognized an opportunity to integrate its existing equipment to offer better views of content and products.

Ava noted that its telepresence robots work with the Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams videoconferencing platforms. “Ava Telepresence Robots enable the hybrid workplace across industries, offering interoperability and easy integration into existing IT frameworks,” said the company.

Ava Robotics provide safety and data, says Ava

Applying robotics technology within a physical workplace can improve productivity and experience, while also maximizing staff and facility resources, said Ava Robotics. Robots can serve as data aggregators; disinfect designated spaces; and report on environmental conditions such as air quality, temperature, and humidity.

The company added that its mobile, autonomous, and hands-free workplace robots can be safely customized to satisfy the demands of settings like healthcare facilities, laboratories, and clean rooms.

In partnership with Johnson Controls, Ava said its security robots can patrol with or without human direction and report on risks or incidents for staffers to address in real time.

UV disinfection robots can get to work during off hours to autonomously clean the air and surfaces, said Ava Robotics.

Gartner Inc. released its report on “Emerging Technologies: Tech Innovators in Smart Robotics—Product and Business,” by Nick Ingelbrecht, Annette Jump, and others on May 31, 2022.
