Geekplus Technology Co. today announced the opening of its Global Research & Development Center in Hong Kong Science Park. The Beijing-based company said the new center represents its dedication to developing artificial intelligence and robotics (AIR) technologies for the international logistics market as well as Hong Kong's vibrant industry.
“Geek+ chose the Science Park as the location for its new R&D center as it is the beating heart of Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem, a city whose strategic location at the heart of Asia and status as a trading hub and high-skilled talent pool is of great importance to the company's R&D efforts,” stated Lit Fung, vice president and managing director of Asia-Pacific, the U.K., and the Americas at Geek+. “We feel certain that the center will help accelerate the digital transformation of Hong Kong's dynamic logistics industry and pave the way for international markets.”
Founded in 2015, Geek+ said its R&D team brings together robotics, computer science, and AI engineers, as well as industrial engineers with logistics expertise. The company said that half of its 1,500 staffers are involved in R&D, and it holds more than 300 patents. It described the new center as “the next step to further enhance the company's innovative strength, provide new job opportunities, and attract the next generation of AIR talent.”
Geek+ works to serve multiple industries
Geek+ said it applies advanced robotics and AI technologies to develop flexible, reliable, and highly efficient solutions for warehouses, factories, and supply chain management.
Building on its goods-to-person picking system, the company offers products including its RoboShuttle for high-density tote or carton picking, robots that can adapt to various parcel-sorting scenarios, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that apply simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) navigation to follow virtual lines in complex environments.
Geek+ added that its AMRs can organize inventory based on real-time demand and move shelves and pallets of ordered goods to picking stations, where employees will finalize the process guided by a user-friendly interface. In comparison with warehouses reliant on manual operations, the systems can improve picking accuracy and efficiency by 300%, claimed the company.
In addition, Geek+ said it has developed systems for industries including e-commerce, apparel, retail, logistics, third-party logistics (3PL), pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. It added that it has 300 global customers and has deployed more than 10,000 robots worldwide.
R&D at HKSTP
Geek+ said its Global R&D Center will create a variety of systems for affordable, efficient, and safe logistics processes. The company, which raised more than $200 million in Series C funding last year, said the new center will help it strengthen its role as an AMR leader and “help customers across industries transform in the intelligent era.”

Established in May 2001, the HKSTP is a statutory body dedicated to building an innovation ecosystem by connecting stakeholders, nurturing technology talent, facilitating collaboration, and incubating startups to deliver social and economic benefits to Hong Kong and the region.
HKSTP has focus clusters on electronics, information and communications technology, green technology, biomedical technology, materials, and precision engineering. It also offers specialized services and infrastructure at Science Park for applied research and product development, creative design support at InnoCentre, and three industrial estates for skill-intensive businesses.
