GXO Logistics Chooses Locus Robotics to Support Customer Warehouses in Europe

GXO and Locus to deploy 65 autonomous mobile robots in the U.K. and the Netherlands, as both partners exhibit at MODEX this week.

GXO Logistics to use 65 LocusBots to support high-volume order fulfillment for a large sports apparel retailer in Europe as it and Locus Robotics exhibit this week at MODEX.

GXO Logistics Inc., which claims to be “the world's largest pure-play contract logistics provider,” has picked Locus Robotics Corp. as the primary supplier of mobile robots to support high-volume order fulfillment for a large sports-fashion retailer in the U.K. and the Netherlands.

“This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to deploy innovative logistics solutions that use advanced technology to address increasingly complex fulfillment challenges,” said Gavin Williams, managing director of GXO for the U.K. and Ireland. “Customization, flexibility, and scalability are the hallmarks of our solutions, and the Locus AMRs [autonomous mobile robots] support our ability to make warehouse space even more efficient for our customers.”

GXO Logistics said it partners with leading companies to solve complex logistics challenges with advanced supply chain technologies, at scale and with speed. The Greenwich, Conn.-based logistics provider added that it is benefiting from the rapid growth of e-commerce, automation, and outsourcing. GXO has about 120,000 team members across more than 900 facilities totaling approximately 200 million square feet.

The company recently reported revenue growth of $300 million in one quarter that it partly attributed to robotics. GXO has also worked with a robotic arm from KNAPP and a multi-tiered collaborative mobile robot from 6 River Systems.

Locus Robotics to help GXO Logistics scale

Locus Robotics claimed that its AMRs can collaborate with human workers to double or triple piece-handling productivity. The Wilmington, Mass.-based company said its multi-bot system can help retailers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), and specialty warehouses efficiently meet and even exceed the increasingly complex demands of order fulfillment.

Locus added that existing warehouses can integrate its systems without disrupting workflows. The company has displayed its new Vector and Max AMRs, which are fully integrated after its acquisition of Waypoint Robotics, at MODEX 2022 this week in Atlanta.

To accommodate the explosive growth of its European retail customer, GXO has deployed 65 Locus Robotics AMRs at its warehouses. The LocusBots optimize productivity in the order-fulfillment process by decreasing unproductive walking time and eliminating the physical challenges of pulling heavy pick trolleys.

GXO, which is also exhibiting at MODEX, last month agreed to acquire London-based Clipper Logistics PLC.
