The need to optimize robot operations is growing in response to supply chain challenges and labor shortages. InOrbit Inc. yesterday announced that it will exhibit its new InOrbit Warehouse Automation, or IOWA, system at ProMat 2023 next week. The provider of cloud-based robot operations software also said it has partnered with Barcodes Inc. and will show their joint offering in Chicago.
IOWA is designed to help modern supply chains meet current challenges by offering a “single pane of glass to orchestrate all aspects of warehouse automation,” said InOrbit. The system can harmoniously manage everything from piece-picking robots and pallet tugs to fixed infrastructure such as cameras and doors, as well as enterprise software, to manage the flow of goods, the company claimed.
Mountain View, Calif.-based InOrbit said its multi-cloud platform enables efficient robot operations (RobOps). It provides observability through secure, real-time analytics and data collection, robot performance monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis, said the company.
The InOrbit Connect certification program allows end users across industries to orchestrate robots for multiple tasks and from multiple vendors to optimize productivity, InOrbit added.
IOWA integrates multiple enterprise systems
InOrbit Warehouse Automation is designed to meet growing demand from third-party logistics providers (3PLs), e-commerce distribution centers, and supply chains deploying robots to improve warehouse operations, said InOrbit.
The company asserted that IOWA eases integration of robots from any vendor with warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse execution systems (WES), or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
IOWA can flexibly define missions, dispatch robots as part of a workflow, and analyze their performance, said InOrbit. Missions can be fixed, such as taking a pallet from a palletization cell to a cargo bay. Or they can be dynamic, such as optimally visiting all the pick points required to complete an order.
Whether they trigger missions in a distribution center or move material to a production line, interact with doors and elevators, or sweep the floor on a fixed schedule, missions can drive the behavior of robots, said the company.
Users can track mission performance and key performance indicators (KPIs) consistently and optimize them to maximize the potential of a wide range of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), noted InOrbit. With real-time operational data and analytics, customers can derive deep insights and drive continuous optimization across automation vendors, the company said.
In addition, InOrbit supports emerging interoperability standards such as the MassRobotics Interoperability Standard, VDA 5050, and Open-RMF, as well as proprietary fleet managers from vendors including Mobile Industrial Robots, OMRON, and OTTO Motors.
