Milrem Robotics will display and offer its THeMIS combat unit and Multiscope Rescue uncrewed ground vehicle for the first time in Latin America after selling them in the U.S. and Europe.

Milrem Robotics today said it will show its uncrewed ground vehicles, or UGVs, for combat and firefighting for the first time in Latin America at the LAAD Defence and Security 2023 exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Talinn, Estonia-based company said it has already delivered its THeMIS Combat and Multiscope Rescue UGVs to 16 countries.

“Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS has already proven to be a reliable and capable robotic system in many countries and in very different climate zones, from tropical environments to the Arctic,” stated Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics. “We are proud to present future unmanned military solutions in Latin America and ready to deliver our systems with full support for deployment in different roles.”

Milrem Robotics said it is a leading European robotics and autonomous systems developer and systems integrator, with offices in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the U.S. In February, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.-based EDGE Group PJSC acquried a majority stake in the company.

THeMIS a 'force multiplier'

THeMIS Combat UGVs can provide high-precision, direct-fire support for maneuver units and act as a force multiplier, claimed Milrem Robotics. The system displayed at LAAD is equipped with the two-axis, gyro-stabilized GUARDIAN 2.0 remote weapon station from Madrid-based Escribano Mechanical & Engineering S.L. (EM&E).

GUARDIAN 2.0 and the advanced sensors and fire-control system in THeMIS allow dismounted infantry units to assess and engage the enemy at maximum standoff distances, said Milrem Robotics. This can increase force protection and survivability day and night, and in adverse weather conditions, it asserted.

The Multiscope Rescue was designed to provide a durable and flexible platform with rescue-specific plug-and-play payloads for various rescue missions. It can withstand harsh conditions and enter areas that are difficult to reach with larger vehicles or are too dangerous for firefighters, the company said.

The UGV is equipped with InnoVfoam’s Hydra fire monitors. It is also suitable for warehouse, tunnel, and industrial use, as well as for extinguishing wildfires, said Milrem Robotics.

Milrem Robotics continues UGV development

Milrem Robotics will display its products with EDGE at Stand S.42 at LAAD, which runs from April 11 to 14. In addition to the THeMIS and Muiltiscope UGVs, the company offers the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle and the MIFIK autonomy kit.

It said it eight NATO members have already taken deliveries of THeMIS, including Estonia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, the U.K, and the U.S.

Milrem is also the leader of the integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System (iMUGS) consortium in charge of developing a European standardized UGV funded by the European Commission’s European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP).

The integrated Modular Unmanned Ground System (iMUGS) project consortium demonstrated the usage of unmanned military systems in arctic conditions in Finland.
