OnRobot/AS today announced the global launch of D:PLOY, the company’s new platform designed to automate robotic application development. The Odense, Denmark-based company said the platform allows its customers to develop applications on the manufacturing floor with zero programming experience required.
“The D:PLOY platform and its ability to truly democratize automation has been OnRobot’s goal from the beginning, and we have been laying the groundwork for years,” said Enrico Krog Iversen, OnRobot CEO, in a statement. “Today, we offer the industry’s broadest range of tools and application solutions for every leading robot brand – all based on our “One System, Zero Complexity” philosophy. Now that the building blocks are in place, we can finally launch the first version of D:PLOY, which will be a market enabler across the industry.”
At launch, D:PLOY supports palletizing, CNC machine tending, packaging, and transferring (pick-and-place) applications. OnRobot said in the future it will add more capabilities to the platform.
“D:PLOY automatically discovers most of the installed hardware, and generates the robot motion based on the obstacles and cell boundaries defined in the workspace,” the company said. “The program logic, signals exchange, event handling, and robot movement are automatically created for the entire application based on a few inputs such as workpiece attributes and pick position.”
Platform to make robotic development more accessible
With its new product, the company said it is helping address the challenge of finding skilled robotic engineers and integrators. “D:PLOY simplifies the task of building and integrating a robotic cell with an innovative approach that doesn’t require any type of programming. With the current shortage of engineers, that’s a huge advantage for integrators,” stated Simon Potkai, a sales engineer at Alexander Bürkle, an OnRobot system integrator.
“By making it easier and faster for us to deploy automation, we can serve more customers and help them more quickly realize the advantages of automation,” he added. “That’s a win-win for everyone.”
Not only does the platform help with labor challenges, it can also be used to speed up processes, the company has argued. In its testing, the company has found the D:PLOY help speed up the deployment of palletizing applications from 40 hours to 4 hours.
“Just as critically, when production requirements change, D:PLOY gives the flexibility to quickly re-deploy the application for new products or workpieces,” the company said. “Real-time monitoring improves productivity and minimizes downtime.”
By creating a platform that is easy to use and implement, the company added that it believes that it will help spur more companies to turn to automation, and its partners agree. “D:PLOY will make automation accessible for companies who may be a bit reluctant, whether it is related to cost or in-house skills and competences,” stated Alan Vallis, training and development manager at LG Motion Ltd. “I think D:PLOY will demystify a lot of that.”
OnRobot was founded in 2018 and develops a range of products designed for the robotic manufacturing industry, including EOATs, a turnkey palletizing solution, and software suites.
