Sarcos Robotics today announced that Pine Environmental Services LLC will be an official distributor of its Guardian S remote visual inspection and surveillance robot.
“Pine Environmental is well-known for its expansive reach within North America and its sizeable equipment inventory,” said Scott Hopper, executive vice president of corporate and business development at Sarcos Robotics. “We are very excited to start this partnership, through which we hope to increase the productivity of a wide variety of customers requiring remote inspection and surveillance capabilities, while simultaneously removing workers from potentially hazardous situations.”
Sarcos Corp. said it has developed industrial robots that augment human performance by combining human intelligence and judgment with the strength and endurance of machines to enhance employee safety and productivity. Its products include exoskeletons and mobile robots.
The Salt Lake City-based company announced in April that it will become publicly listed through a merger with special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Rotor Acquisition Corp.
Robots can aid asset management
Robotic technology is often overlooked as a critical digital transformation tool for the asset management process. Automating asset performance management, including inspections of facilities and equipment, can yield significant improvements, according to a November 2019 Technology Spotlight by IDC. These include 20% improvements in asset uptime, 15% to 20% reductions in maintenance labor costs, and 8% to 10% improvements in mechanical efficiencies.
The Guardian S robot is uniquely capable, cost-effective, and portable, weighing approximately 17 lb. (7.7 kg.), claimed Sarcos. The robot can traverse vertical ferromagnetic surfaces, stairs, culverts, and other unstructured terrain and confined spaces, as well as narrow pipes and tanks, the company said.
In addition, the Guardian S can facilitate two-way, real-time video, voice, and data communication, all from a safe distance, said Sarcos. It said that the robot serves applications including non-destructive testing (NDT), disaster recovery, infrastructure inspection, and maintenance.
The Guardian S can also serve the aerospace, maritime, oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, defense, public safety, and security industries, Sarcos said.
Pine adds Guardian S to offerings
Pine Environmental Services provides rentals, sales, and service of equipment in the U.S. and Canada for environmental monitoring, NDT, and visual inspection, as well as continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS). The Windsor, N.J.-based company claimed that it has the largest inventory of test and measurement equipment in North America.
Pine will offer the Guardian S robot for rental in its 39 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Pine is known for having the largest stock of test and measurement equipment in their warehouses across North America. The company also provides technical support and field supplies.
“Sarcos has a long history of providing advanced robotics technologies to many different industries,” said Mike McGettigan, chief commercial officer at Pine Environmental. “Pine’s customers will significantly benefit from this premium, differentiated remotely-operated robotics tool, and we’re glad to be able to offer it as part of our portfolio.”
