Siemens Switchgear Shanghai experienced a surge in demand for customized equipment, putting a strain on a complex production process subject to inefficient storage of raw materials, labor-intensive material handling, and low visibility. After evaluating several automation solutions, the company chose robots from Geekplus Technology Co. to make its production more more dynamic and efficient.
Beijing-based Geek+ today announced the successful deployment of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in Siemens Switchgear Shanghai’s factory. By implementing four robot models driven by artificial intelligence, the manufacturer has committed to provide better service to its customers and join Industry 4.0, said Geek+.

Siemens deploys AMRs for logistics
Geek+ provided four types of AI-driven logistics robots, including the P800 goods-to-person robot, the C200S bin-to-person robot, a four-way shuttle, and the heavy-load handling M1000. The vendor said that by coordinating its robots, it has consolidated the process for receiving raw materials, quality checking, storing, outbound collection, and transportation of raw materials from storage to the production line.
Intelligent robots can be easily integrated with other equipment and existing infrastructure, allowing a more dynamic installation, claimed Geek+. This has allowed the manufacturer to secure record-high production levels throughout the implementation process.
The customer was able to streamline operations, according to Geek+. Siemens Switchgear Shanghai gained two to three times more storage capacity, 99.99% accurate operations, 2.5 times storing efficiency, outbound collection process improved by 2.15 times, and 30% less manual labor needed, said the company.
In addition, Geek+ said its systems enable real-time visualization of inventory, as well as the unification of material information and physical logistics scenarios. It said this makes it easier to follow, control, and adjust the manufacturing process. With intelligent algorithms and “heat map” software, Siemens can adjust the logistics operations daily according to the production plan, for maximum efficiency and flexibility, it added.
Geek+ noted that Siemens Switchgear Shanghai expects to use its hardware and software to improve customer service and provide a safer environment for warehouse employees. Through the integration of big data and the ability to fine-tune the system, the manufacturer will continue to evolve and compete globally, said the company.
