For the fourth time, the American Bar Association will be hosting its annual 2022 AI and Robotics National Institute.
The American Bar Association Section of Science & Technology Law will hold its 2022 AI and Robotics National Institute virtually, Oct. 10-11.
The two-day institute, now in its fourth year, will equip those in the field of law, government officials, educators, and students with key technical concepts in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Programming includes sessions on data protection, machine learning, the metaverse, AI best practices, intellectual property, AI and robotics ethical obligations, and legal and ethical issues around lab-grown brains.
Participants can expect to understand the impact of AI on lawyers and their clients; explore the changing legal technical landscape; assess tips for assisting AI and robotics developers, and discuss considerations for owning an AI and robotics business.
U.S. Congressman Ro Khanna to deliver opening keynote
The opening keynote address will be given by Congressman Ro Khanna, U.S. representative for California’s 17th Congressional District, on Monday, Oct. 10 from 11-11:30 a.m. Khanna is a recognized leader in technology policy.
His congressional district includes cities in Santa Clara and Alameda counties, the heart of Silicon Valley. Khanna will share his thoughts on the importance of artificial intelligence, as well as current and future legislation on AI. He also will offer his perspective on the role of the legal profession in supporting AI.
Former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will discuss how deepfakes and AI analytics are being used to promote disinformation and undermine public trust in government and institutions on Monday, Oct. 10 from 2:15-2:45 p.m. He also will offer solutions to some of the most pressing questions in high-tech information warfare.
What role does the law play in autonomous driving?
The morning keynote speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 11 will be J. Christian Gerdes, professor of mechanical engineering, emeritus at Stanford University, who will speak on autonomous driving and the role of law and ethics.
The afternoon keynote speaker will be the Honorable James E. Baker, professor of law and public administration at Syracuse University and a former chief judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
He will speak from 2:15-2:45 p.m. about the importance of moving national security AI and its regulation from principle to practice.
