Urbx Logistics, which provides automated storage and retrieval systems, is working with Mitsubishi Electric to help retailers optimize their in-store order fulfillment processes.

The acceleration of demand for e-commerce order fuflillment has encouraged robotics providers to partner to offer their systems at scale. Mitsubishi Electric Automation Inc. today announced that it has added Urbx Logistics to its Diamond Partner OEM Program. Mitsubishi said the program is an extension of its commitment to achieve the highest level of quality, performance, and efficiency for its customers.

“The Urbx mission brings automated, on-demand retail fulfillment to everyone,” stated Lincoln Cavalieri, CEO of Urbx Logistics. “Through working with Mitsubishi Electric Automation, we see an enormous opportunity to leverage their industry-leading robotics system architecture in a groundbreaking way.”

“Close collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric allows us to scale rapidly to meet the intense demand for compact, high-speed fulfillment in the marketplace,” he added. “We are excited to work with them now and into the future.”

Urbx said its “omni-channel warehouse” is an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) that can help grocery chains, retailers, and distribution centers fulfill orders on demand. The Boston-based company said its system includes rapid robotic retrieval of online orders.

Mitsubishi offers support to partners like Urbx

Urbx said it partnered with Mitsubishi Electric Automation because of its robotics system architecture.

Vernon Hills, Mich.-based Mitsubishi Electric is a U.S. affiliate of Japan-based Mitsubishi Electric Corp. Its portfolio includes robots, programmable automation controllers (PAC), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human machine interfaces (HMI).

The company also provides variable frequency drives (VFD), servo amplifiers and motors, control software, computerized numerical controllers (CNC), motion controllers, low-voltage power distribution products, and industrial sewing machines.

Mitsubishi Diamond Partner OEMs receive engineering support, tools to increase manufacturing productivity, and sales and marketing collaboration.

The company said that by working with Urbx, which has expertise using advanced technology to deliver directly to consumers, it will maximize an opportunity to bring innovation to the future of order fulfillment.
