China leads Asian robotics growth

Asia remains the world’s largest market for industrial robots, said the IFR. Seventy-one percent of all newly deployed robots in 2020 were installed in Asia, compared with 67% in 2019.

China remains the largest adopter of robotics, with installations growing by 20%, with 168,400 units shipped. This is the highest value ever recorded for a single country.

China’s operational stock reached 943,223 units, an increase of 21%. The IFR said it expects the country to pass the 1 million unit in 2021.

“Robot installations in Asia are expected to exceed the 300,000-unit mark and add 15% to the previous year’s result,” said Guerry. “Almost all Southeast Asian markets are expected to grow by double-digit rates in 2021.”
