Markforged has introduced Onyx ESD, a new composite material for additive manufacturing of electronics. The company, a builder of additive manufacturing equipment, says the new material is a high-performance static-dissipative version of its popular Onyx, a micro carbon fiber-filled nylon. Markforged says electronics manufacturers have not been able to innovate with additive manufacturing due to the lack of static-dissipation materials. Electronics manufacturers must use materials that meet electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety requirements, to avoid damaging a product or critical component during production. Though there are other ESD-safe materials in the market, Markforged’s is reportedly the only to offer the highest…
Atomstack, a China-based 3D printing company, has launched Cambrian, a 3D printer for thermoplastic rubber filament. This new desktop FDM 3D printer is a tool capable of producing virtually any end-use rubber product as well as handling traditional 3D printing tasks. Atomstack Cambrian is available now on Kickstarter. With Atomstack Cambrian, users can print in thermoplastic rubber (TPR). This material lets users create virtually any end-use rubber product such as shoes, lattices, sporting goods, medical devices, prototypes and more. Cambrian uses a swappable extruder design—including one extruder for traditional filaments and one specially designed extruder for TPR. “For years, the…
Australian company, SPEE3D, designers and manufacturers of metal 3D printers, are expanding globally into new markets. A recent agreement with Infocus Laser Systems means the SPEE3D technology will now be available in Brazil. Infocus is a technology company based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. For 22 years the company has focused on facilitating production processes using laser technology. In the last 5 years, Infocus has focused on the additive manufacturing (AM) market and has successfully developed metal AM markets in aerospace & defense, universities and R&D, oil & gas/energy, medical and automotive industries. The addition of SPEE3D technology now means they…
The market for 3D printing materials has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but plenty of market drivers point to a strong future, according to research by business intelligence firm IDTechEx, published as “3D Printed Materials Market 2020-2030 - COVID Edition.” Indeed, IDTechEx forecasts that the global market for 3D printing materials will be worth $18.4 billion in 2030. Dr. Jonathan Harrop, director of IDTechEx, has recently published an article on the topic of 3D printed materials. This article follows the release of the new IDTechEx report, “3D Printed Materials Market 2020-2030: COVID Edition.” 3D printing is moving into mainstream…
JETCAM International s.a.r.l. and Airborne jointly announce a collaboration on integration between the Airborne’s Automated Kitting solution and JETCAM’s CrossTrack composite material tracking software. The integration ensures data exchanges between the two systems as plies are unloaded from the cutting table and then automatically sorted into ordered kits by the Airborne’s kitting system. As the operator loads each ply to the kitting machine it is scanned and its shape identified, along with its stacking order. The robot sorts, sequences and stacks all subsequent plies until the kit is complete, automatically updating its status within CrossTrack without any user input. When…
This year’s virtual CES will be held between Jan. 11 to 14, and, yesterday, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), announced that Aurora Labs has won the CES Innovation Honoree Award for its Auto Validate solution. The panel of judges contributing to this recognition are executives—many from across the automotive ecosystem. Included are Tommy Cvetanovski, General Motors; Siddha Ganju, NVIDIA; and Maciej Ksiazek, Aptiv. Image courtesy of CES/Aurora Labs. Aurora Labs’ Auto Validate solution gives the automotive manufacturers the transparency to validate what software changes have been made, how they affect other components in the complex software system and to reduce…
Markforged has launched Onyx ESD, a new high-strength composite material for the electronics manufacturing industry. This year, many industries have leveraged additive manufacturing to withstand supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19. Use of this technology for the production of electronics, however, has been limited due to barriers. Electronics manufacturers must use materials that meet electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety requirements to avoid damaging a product or critical component during production. Now, with the launch of Onyx ESD, electronics manufacturers can utilized additive manufacturing. This material is a high-performance static-dissipative version of Markforged’s flagship composite base material Onyx, a micro carbon fiber-filled…
Materialise NV has released SurgiCase software, an online case management system (CMS) for personalized medical devices. The SurgiCase software, will give medical device companies and clinicians a single location to exchange data, communicate about procedural planning and check the status of their cases. This reduces the administrative overhead and helps these companies to help more patients with a personalized device at a lower cost. The Materialise SurgiCase software will help companies optimize the logistical process by streamlining several steps in their planning and design process, from order intake and case tracking, to reporting and compliance checks. It will accelerate their…
Stratasys has launched a new program to integrate its 3D printers in production environments with the factory floor via the GrabCAD Software Development Kit (SDK). Each SDK package includes a complete set of application programming interfaces documentation, and code samples that enable development partners and manufacturing customers to establish two-way connectivity between Stratasys FDM 3D printers and enterprise software applications. Stratasys has previously introduced support for MTConnect, an industry-standard protocol that enables customers to communicate factory data. However, this standard does not support additional capabilities for sending and receiving printer commands and for remote monitoring. Stratasys is now meeting the…
A new hybrid program for CNC machining training has been launched, in part, by IACMI, that combines online learning and in-person machine time to deliver fast, engaging, and high-quality education aimed at developing the next generation of high-tech machinists in the United States. The physics-based training is part of America’s Cutting Edge (ACE), a national initiative for machine tool technology development and advancement. It is supported by the Department of Defense (DOD) Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) Program from the Office of Industrial Policy. DOD is utilizing the scientific expertise of the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory…
