Two Singapore-based robotics companies are joining forces. Teleoperation software start-up Cognicept Systems this week said it has merged with KABAM Robotics, a subdivision of engineering firm Patec Group.

Cognicept combines capabilties

Cognicept Systems was founded in 2018 out of a startup generator program funded by Singapore investment firm Antler.

Its software platform, which Cognicept calls “A Global Human/Robot Remote Intervention OS” allows its customers to track, guide, identify, and fix issues with their fleet of robots remotely, according to the company’s website. Its tag line is “We step in when robots get confused.”

Some of its partners include Savioke, Konica Minolta, ROS industrial, Infinium Robotics, and KONE.

KABAM offers a range of indoor and outdoor robots for security, deliveries, mapping, and hospitality. The company said its robots are modular to meet individual customers’ needs. It said it is deeply inspired by automotive design.

It claims that its robots have a 99.3% success rate and have logged a collective 23,700 hours of operation time.

KABAM said it has knowledge in machine design, precision manufacturing, and international supply chains, as well as access to global commercial channels. The company said its expertise, in combination with Cogniciept’s software skills, will provide world-leading robots for applications such as facilities management, deliveries, and surveillance.

A SMART start

KABAM makes a proprietary operating system called SMART+OS, which it offers to robot manufacturers as an independent product.

Just 18 months after launching, the company said it has deployed the largest number of security robots in Singapore. It has also begun doing business in Hong Kong and Australia. KABAM credited its Smart+ platform for its expansion.

The company said Smart+ offers great remote/offsite access features such as versatile mission planning, point-and-click ease of use, elevator integration, immersive observability, vision AI, backend connectivity tools, and more. It said it has partnered with Singapore Technologies, ROS Industrial, Mobile Industrial Robots, Singapore Land Authority, Infinium Robotics, among others.

Incorporated in 1992, Patec Group supplies the automotive and aerospace industries. It is headquartered in Singapore and employs more than 10,000 people. The company has two research centers, five production sites, and six service centers around the world.
