A3 releases Part 3 of ANSI/A3 R15.06-2025 Robot Safety Standard

A3 and ANSI

A3 released Part 3 of the American National Standard for Industrial Robots and Robot Systems.

The Association for Advancing Automation (A3) announced the publication of Part 3 of the ANSI/A3 R15.06-2025 American National Standard for Industrial Robots and Robot Systems - Safety Requirements.

In conjunction with the release of Parts 1 and 2 in September 2025, the full standard is now available in protected PDF format on the A3 website.

The full safety standard includes:

  • Part 1: Safety requirements for industrial robots
  • Part 2: Safety requirements for industrial robot applications and robot cells
  • Part 3: Safety requirements for the use of industrial robot cells

A new safety standard for industrial robots

A3 said that all three parts are published together under one cover because they are intended to be used together to support safe manufacture, integration and use of industrial robots.

While Parts 1 and 2 represent the U.S. national adoption of ISO 10218, A3 said that Part 3 is a new, U.S.-developed standard. Because ISO standards do not address user requirements, Part 3 (ANSI/A3 R15.06-3-2025) was developed within the U.S. in collaboration with standards development experts in both the United States and Canada.

Together, A3 said that these documents provide comprehensive, up-to-date guidance for robot manufacturers, system integrators and end users, with a strong emphasis on risk assessment and worker safety in industrial environments.

“This is more than a milestone in safety standardization. It’s a call to action,” said Jeff Burnstein, president of A3, following the publication of Parts 1 and 2. “Publishing this safety standard is perhaps the most important thing A3 can do, as it directly impacts the safety of millions of people working in industrial environments around the world.”
