Deenova's new unit packing robot system.
Deenova s.r.l. this week unveiled the second generation of its dosing-medication robot. The system was designed to automatically repack unit doses of all forms of medication, including oral, solids and liquids such as ampoules, syringes, vials, and all types of patches sachet and suppositories, the company said.
Founded in 2004, Deenova said it guarantees “the simplification of all processes related to the management of medications and medical devices, both disposables and implantables." The company is headquartered in Gragano Trebbiense, Italy.
As part of its D1 Series, Deenova's products include its Orbit micro-logistics management software, along with a number of automated “ALL-IN 1” stations used for personalized medication dispensing, and medicines administration.
The company claimed it is the first to offer “a fully automated closed-loop solution for the management of both medication and medical supplies, ensuring total traceability from prescription to administration to be side verification.”
One of the key goals with the D Series of products is to reduce waste and human error, Deenova added.
“I am very excited to see that our new ALL-IN-1 robot has successfully passed all the factory validation tests and is now fully operational in Deenova’s central unit dose laboratory near Piacenza, serving 22 hospitals sites in Italy, with more than 6-million-unit doses produced per year,” said Fulvio Rudello, chief operations officer of Deenova in a statement.
The new station is in compliance with the Falsified Medicines Directive and can be configured with a number of different medication databases, the company said. Deenova added that the system is “equipped with a highly automated feeding system and internal controls.”
To organize medications, unit doses are labeled with bar codes and include descriptions of medication types. Deenova estimated that its new system will reduce daily pharmaceutical expenditures by 18% and cause a 60% reduction in medication waste. To keep items preserved, each medication is packed.
“This is the first step of a wider upgrading process of our facility and will be followed by the gradual replacement of existing equipment starting with implementation during the first quarter of 2023, of the new D3 AIDE Cut, Deenova's latest modular mechatronic solutions for the repackaging of oral solid medications in unit doses,” Fulvio added.
“Our 100% customer retention rate in Italy, after more than 15 years of operations, motivates us to relentlessly define new standards of performance and customer experience,” said Christophe Jaffuel, chief commercial officer at Deenova in a statement. “Having this new ALL-IN-1 robot, fully operating in our facilities is a great premise for our upcoming breakthrough installations in the U.K. and Germany”
Deenova said its “system help ease growing pressures to improve patient safety, reduce therapy errors, minimize waste and controlled substance diversion, contain costs, and diminish the gap between rising patient volume/acuity and scarce medical staff.”
Mordor Intelligence estimated that the medical robotic system market will reach $28.34 billion by 2026, at a compound annual growth rata of 22.18%.
