OSARO

OSARO said it designed its vision software for goods-to-robot tasks.

OSARO will team up with automation integrator Elm Electrical to demonstrate how cobots can piece-pick close at hand to humans during PACK EXPO International Oct. 23-26 in Chicago.

The CRX-10iA/L FANUC cobot will be handing out mints and business cards to visitors in a bin-picking exercise as part of the demo at the trade show hosted by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI).

Cobots, or collaborative robots, are typically smaller than industrial robots and can operate alongside humans without safety fencing, which keeps installation costs down and reduces their footprint on the factory or warehouse floor. Typically, they perform simple pick-and-place tasks and assist with precision operations such as welding.

OSARO said its intelligent robots enable goods-to-robot (G2R) use cases, where the greatest gains are yet to be made on the automated warehouse floor.

Cobot in action

OSARO’s advanced vision software enables robots to see, perceive, grasp, and perform tasks previously done only by humans in e-commerce fulfillment. It allows larger robots—as well as cobots—to manage changes in packaging materials on the fly and reliably handle a vast range of item shapes and SKUs for picking, kitting, and packaging. OSARO vision software is available to integrators and resellers who are working with clients on specific deployments.

“Collaborations such as this, with Elm Electrical and trusted robot maker FANUC America, show how robotics can enhance the human working experience,” said OSARO CEO Derik Pridmore. “Working together, we can streamline the execution of complex automation for customers with high-demand needs in an era of persistent labor shortages.”

“We believe OSARO’s superior vision software and FANUC’s reliable collaborative robots, coupled with our integration and installation expertise, provide our customers another option and more flexibility when planning their factory automation,” said Michael Holmberg, senior vice president for Elm Electrical. “Demonstrations like this can help our clients envision the potential for new forms of automation more clearly.”
