Faulhaber announces new integrated motion control system

Faulhaber’s new 22xx…BX4 integrated motion controller can fit on its 2200 series of BX4 series brushless motors offered in two lengths.

Servo and drive system components manufacturer Faulhaber recently announced a new integrated motion control (IMC) system for its 2200 series of BX4 brushless motors.

The company said its 22xx…BX4 IMC features an extensive range of functions. The IMC adds 18mm, or 0.7 inches, in length to Faulhaber’s motors while providing a full-featured servo controller and a 12 bit encoder. Faulhaber said the full performance of the motors can be used in all different executions.

The 22xx…BX4 IMC can be combined with Faulhaber’s GPT gearheads and new 22L linear actuators. Faulhaber said the diameter-conform design provides users with a system solution that minimizes space and resources as well as wiring requirements.

Brushless motors compatible with the new 22xx…BX4 IMC are available in two lengths. Faulhaber said the motors are suitable for a wide range of market segments, including medical and laboratory technology, automation technology, robotics, and special industrial machinery.

Standards compliance, interface options enable easy configuration

The company said being fully compliant with the CiA 402 servo drive standard allows direct support from typical programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Built-in current control automatically provides protection against overloading, and there is also a diagnostic function. Torque, velocity, or position control are supported according to the servo drive standard, in addition to low EMC emissions and CE label.

Faulhaber said its model equipped with an RS232 interface is ideal for integration both from a PC or via an embedded master. The CANopen version is suited for industrial automation networks. But even using the RS232 version, several drives can be controlled using a single port of the master.

Typical tasks like homing a drive can directly be executed by the IMC using its local digital and analog I/Os. Alternatively, both versions can also be operated without a master in "stand-alone" mode. Faulhaber said the digital and analog I/Os can then be used for local control tasks or for discrete set-point and actual values.

Faulhaber said its free Motion Manager 7.1 software allows easy configuration and system integration. Its user interface enables easy system setup and provides access to the extended diagnostic functions. To allow for a quick start, programming adapters for RS232, CANopen and USB are available as accessories.
