InOrbit, which provides orchestration software for mobile robot operations and has participated in interoperability efforts, will be part of a panel at A3's AMR show.

Next week, the Association for Advancing Automation, or A3, will host the AMR & Logistics Conference in Memphis, Tenn. Among the sessions at the event will be a roundtable on interoperability for autonomous mobile robots.

Many autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) entering warehouses and other environments are managed by vendor-provided software and connect with other enterprise systems. However, concerns about interoperability have arisen as fleets expand and different robots from multiple vendors need to collaborate with one another, as well as human workers.

“We're very active in the AMR space, as well as logistics,” said Florian Pestoni, CEO of InOrbit, who will be among the panelists. “That space has been on fire with investments and acquisitions. In the past, companies said, 'This could work,' but now it's 'Let's scale this.' We're now only at 0.1% adoption, so we're just getting started.”

Mountain View, Calif.-based InOrbit provides cloud-based orchestration software as a service to help optimize operations. The company recently announced its support of a new MassRobotics interoperability standard for communications. Pestoni is also co-founder of the Robot Operations Group (ROG), which discusses interoperability issues.

InOrbit presence at A3 event

The session on “Interoperability for AMRs: Exploring the Path Forward” will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. Pestoni will join speakers from FedEx, Siemens, and Vecna Robotics.

In addition, InOrbit will be an exhibitor at A3's conference, which will focus on automation and logistics advancements. The company said it will be available for live product demonstrations and interviews upon request. It also plans to make several announcements at the show.

“We will be showing some concepts at our booth, and we'll have partners to talk about solutions,” Pestoni told Robotics 24/7. “We're happy to help facilitate this event.”
