Kassow Robots KR1018 Seven-Axis Cobot Now Available for American SME Applications

Kassow Robots ApS today introduced its KR1018 robot to North America. The collaborative robot is strong enough to perform machine tending with heavy metal and plastic parts and precise enough to carry out pick-and-place tasks at high payloads, said the company.

“The KR1018 is a very strong, compact cobot with a weight of only 34 kg [74.9 lb.], ideal for performing various jobs at industrial companies,” said Dieter Pletscher, head of global sales at Kassow Robots. “SMEs [small and midsize enterprises] without their own robotics specialists can achieve complex automation and programming cost-effectively and independently with the KR1018.”

Kastrup, Denmark-based Kassow Robots designs and manufacturers seven-axis lightweight robots for industrial applications that are “strong, fast, simple.” The company claimed that Its line of five cobots offers a "unique combination of speed, power, and long reach."

"When combined with simple programming techniques, our cobot capabilities can help customers and integrators quickly and cost-efficiently perform complex automation tasks in machine tending, material handling, general automation, and related applications," said Kassow.

The company joined the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) in January 2022, and the KR1018 has been availabe in Europe since 2020.

Kassow builds KR1018 for a variety of tasks

The KR1018 can conduct precise and repetitive industrial tasks that require strength, with a payload of 18 kg (39.6 lb.) and a reach of 1000 mm (39.3 in.), said Kassow Robotics. The company added that it has designed the cobot's interface for ease of use, and its plug-and-play concept makes it accessible to SMEs.

The robot is suitable for industrial applications including assembly, quality assurance, palletizing, and pick-and-place tasks, said Kassow. Its seventh axis, or “wrist joint,” and safety-compliant design allow for human-robot collaboration, the company said. Users can move the relatively lightweight KR1018 to perform tasks in different areas of a facility.

The seventh axis gives the KR1018 a small footprint of 160 x 160 mm (6.2 x 6.2 in.), maneuverability, and an increased range of motion, said the company. It can perform tasks such as loading and unloading of heavy parts for the metalworking industry or heavy lifting in the food-production sector.

The seventh axis also enables continuous dispensing, welding, and material removal applications, regardless of access angle, without the need to reorient the arm, said Kassow.

The KR1018 is a lightweight cobot with a payload of up to 18 kg, a reach of 1,000 mm and a weight of only 34 kg.
