Yaskawa Motoman releases Weld Builder software package for robotic welding

Yaskawa America

The new Yaskawa Motoman Weld Builder software smart pendant is designed to ease the welding programming process for robotic welding.

Yaskawa America Inc. and its Motoman Robotics Division announced the launch of Weld Builder, a new smart pendant software package designed to streamline the welding programming process for robot integrators and end-users.

Weld Builder requires Smart Pendant version 4.0.2 and is compatible with the YRC1000 controller. It supports integration with various power sources, including Fronius, Miller and Lincoln power supplies.

UX creates step-by-step process to create welding jobs

Weld Builder’s UI features a step-by-step guided process for creating weld jobs through the Weld Wizard. This tool is designed to help users, especially those new to robot welding, by guiding them through their first weld job and helping them select appropriate welding parameters.

The software also includes a Weld Advisor, which, in conjunction with the Weld Wizard, suggests potential welding parameters based on user-defined welds, offering a valuable starting point for robot travel speed and weld parameter data entry.

Weld Builder incorporates icon-driven programming, which Yaskawa said simplifies the creation of weld jobs by providing a more user-friendly interface derived from the company’s standard INFORM software. This design, according to Yaskawa, promotes seamless interactions while maintaining the versatility to address complex welding tasks.

To support users further, Weld Builder includes a comprehensive Training Center, offering detailed instructions on setup and usage as well as general knowledge on robot welding. Users can gain proficiency with the software and maximize its capabilities. Additionally, Weld Builder produces standard INFORM jobs, enabling compatibility and allowing experienced users to modify or enhance weld paths, including advanced features like basic weaving and stitch welding.

Weld Builder integrates with Direct Teach (DT) features on Human Collaborative (HC) robots, enabling programming with minimal pendant interaction using DT buttons.
