A digital twin is a virtual representation of a physical asset, machine, robot, process or facility that is connected to real-world data.
In robotics and automation, digital twins can be used to simulate workflows, monitor equipment, test changes, optimize operation, and evaluate system performance before making physical modifications.
For example, a warehouse digital twin might represent storage locations, robots, conveyors, inventory flows, people and other equipment. Engineers can use the model to evaluate throughput, bottlenecks, robot traffic, and alternative automation configurations.
Digital twins can connect design, simulation, deployment, and ongoing operational optimization.
