In a press conference on Monday, Cimcorp Automation (Booth 4237) debuted the 3D Shuttle, a gantry-robot based system that supports goods-to-person picking.

“The system selects from layered columns of plastic totes stacked 12 high on the floor, and spaced 2 inches apart for maximum density,” said Derek Rickard, sales manager of distribution systems.

To access a SKU, the gantry robot lifts the stack and deposits the required tote onto the shuttle, which transports it to a conveyor for piece picking. “It’s ideal for handling B- and C-velocity SKUs and accommodates different tote sizes and heights,” he said.

Cimcorp also featured its layer pick system with servo-driven gripping technology. It combines a heavy-duty clamping- and vacuum-based tool with a large, fast gantry robot to pick multiple layers simultaneously.

“Depending on the SKU handled, the system automatically adjusts clamping force and vacuum strength. It’s ideal for facilities that pick more than 1,000 layers per day from 50-500 SKUs,” Rickard said.

ProMat 2015 is scheduled to be held March 23-26, 2014 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete ProMat 2015 coverage.
