MetraSCAN 3D-R is a robot-mounted optical CMM (coordinate measuring machine) scanner that can be easily integrated into automated quality-control processes on production lines.

Creaform said MetraSCAN 3D-R can easily be installed and integrated, helping manufacturers accelerate their time to market. It generates up to 3 million measurements per second, regardless of surfaces, trims, and geometric features.

MetraSCAN 3D-R offers high-density scanning, with 69 laser lines. Its C-Track optical tracker enables dynamic referencing which means measurements are not affected by shop-floor conditions such as vibration or thermal variations, clarifed Creaform.

The scanner also provides an acceptance test based on ISO standards, accuracy to 0.025 mm (0.0009 in.), and high resolution, the company explained. With its blue laser technology that can handle reflective surfaces, the R-Series is available in 16 configurations, so can handle any inspection process, as well as a wide range of part geometries and sizes – from 1.5 to 3 m (4.9 to 9.8 ft.).

Not only does the R-Series not require robotics expertise of shop-floor operators, but it is also compatible with existing metrology software and digital twins, Creaform said. The scanner works with industrial and collaborative robots.

The MetraSCAN 3D-R BLACKIElite is designed to work with parts with multiple surfaces, while the BLACKIElite HD provides resolution for parts with many edges, trims, and boundaries.

The CUBE-R, which also uses the MetraSCAN 3D-R, is an industrial measuring cell that has been designed to be integrated into factories for at-line inspections. Creaform noted that the turnkey cell is much faster than traditional CMM scanners, is optimized for shop-floor inspections, and uses the VXscan-R interface to minimize operator interactions.
