Caja Robotics, which provides automation for order fulfillment, today announced that Dr. Christian E. Baur, formerly CEO of Swisslog, has joined the company as senior advisor. Following a successful rollout of Caja’s warehouse robots in the U.S. and responding to growing demand for automation in the EU, Baur will support building a strong network of clients and partners to fortify the company’s presence in Europe.
Founded in 2014, Caja Robotics offers robots for goods-to-person order fulfillment. The Binyamina, Israel-based company said its systems are intended to improve warehouse pick-up order efficiency, increase storage capacity, and optimize employees’ workplaces. Caja added that its systems are designed to be flexible and address the needs of specific segments, such as footwear, fashion, apparel, or online grocery.
“There are only a few mature companies that offer innovative robotic-driven goods-to-person solutions, but none like Caja, which really focuses on creating top-of-the-line, cloud-based software optimization of order fulfillment—accomplishing high fulfilment rates, with efficient use of resources,” stated Baur. “I am very impressed with how flexible and scalable their solution is, making quick ROI [returns on investment] feasible.”
In December 2020, Caja raised $12 million in a Series B round. Since then, the company has deployed numerous robots worldwide, including for Bergen Logistics, which manages the online fulfillment of dozens of brands in New York. Caja has also worked with AHS Partners to deploy 100 robots to a major distribution facility in Kentucky.
Baur brings wide experience to Caja
Baur is an expert in software and robotics, as well as an entrepreneur focusing on the future of automation and the creation of customer value, said Caja Robotics. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Munich and a doctoral degree from the Technical University of Karlsruhe.
With experience from KUKA, Swisslog, and various management consulting, Baur understands project-based global businesses, operational excellence, and mergers and acquisitions, said Caja. He will apply that innovative thinking and leadership to digitized logistics solutions, the company added.
“We are excited to welcome Chris as senior advisor,” said Ilan Cohen, CEO of Caja Robotics. “His vast knowledge and experience are invaluable to Caja and will serve as a pillar for building our European presence. We look forward to his creative approach and leadership.”
“I am a believer in software, automation, and robotics solutions,” Baur said. “With Caja’s technology, the future of logistics is here. Caja is taking all of these and providing a perfect solution to the current logistics market needs, especially for businesses and warehouses that need scalable solutions. I see an epic potential for the future.”
