…largest AutoStore integrator. Earlier this year, Element Logic acquired SDI Industries, a provider of sortation systems and automation, which it said made it one of the largest systems integrators in the world. Element Logic finds flexibility in Addverb Warehouse operations have increasingly turned to mobile robots because of their flexibility for dealing with a wide variety of goods. Addverb said it offers a “unique” combination of mobile and fixed automation, as well as enterprise software for logistics. The Irvine, Calif.-based company said it provides expertise and warehouse automation based on Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics. “After…

MODEX 2022 Welcomes Back Attendees, as Materials Handling Robotics Cautiously Advances

Found in Robotics News & Content, with a score of 0.60

April 04, 2022

…notable deal around the show was the acquisition of SDI Systems by Element Logic, a Norwegian firm that is the largest integrator of AutoStore. SDI will serve as Element Logic’s base to enter the North and South American markets. Examples of partnerships to gain access to new markets included Murata Machinery and AGVE Group, Muratec and Cimcorp, and Addverb Technologies and Numina Group. And, while not really a consolidation, I remain impressed by the amount of private equity funds that continue to be invested in our space. Robotics reaches a tipping point Back in 2015, I invited Tom Galluzzo, the…

Reverse Logistics Begins to Benefit From Automation

…5,000 units an hour,” explained Krish Nathan, CEO of SDI. “Ultimately, automated reverse-logistics handling is a function of volume.” Another critical factor is the expected turnaround time for processing returns. After all, the reverse logistics process has several steps. The first step is to receive the items. Then they need to be reviewed and reclassified. Some can be returned immediately to stock, and others need some attention before returning to stock, some are sold to a reseller, and the most damaged of the bunch are consigned to scrap. At least, those are the most common general classifications for the disposition…

January 06, 2021

…WES, let’s use a pouch sortation system such as SDI’s Joey sorter. Individual items are scanned and placed into pouches. Using advanced algorithms, the pouches are sorted and shuffled until the items on the order are next to one another and advance to the beginning of the line for packing. The pouches are then routed to a packing station where they’re cartonized and sent by the WCS to the overnight shipping lane in time for next day air pick-up. Resource visibility A WES has visibility to all available resources and can coordinate activities to meet committed service levels. Integrated with…
