Amazon announced that it will open a new, $100M facility in Greenwood, Ind. that will produce products that power Amazon's fulfillment and robotics network across North America.
Amazon announced plans to invest more than $100 million in a new, 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility located in Greenwood, Ind., that will produce products that power Amazon's fulfillment and robotics network across North America.
The company said that the new facility will create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs and is expected to launch by 2028.
Amazon said that the investment deepens the company’s nearly two-decade commitment to Indiana, where the company has invested more than $40 billion and created more than 27,000 jobs since first launching operations in the state in 2008.
The company said that it’s also another example of the company’s deep investments in American manufacturing and economic growth. Amazon said that it has built one of the largest industrial robotics manufacturing operations in the world at its facilities in Massachusetts, and has manufactured more than one million robots in the U.S. to date.
Amazon said that those robots are now deployed across more than 300 facilities globally, assisting employees with 75% of all customer orders the company delivers worldwide. The Greenwood facility follows an August announcement of a new robotics manufacturing investment in Texas, as Amazon continues to expand its domestic manufacturing footprint.
The company said that the growth has been good for employees too. As the company has deployed more robots across its operations, Amazon said that it's seen meaningful improvements in workplace safety and created more skilled roles, including technicians, engineers and specialists who maintain and work alongside these systems.
"We're thrilled to bring 300 advanced manufacturing jobs to Greenwood, Indiana, and to continue investing in growth and opportunities across the state," said Holly Sullivan, vice president of economic development at Amazon. "This facility represents a significant investment in the Indianapolis community that will create jobs with a median salary well above the regional average. Indiana has a world-class manufacturing workforce and business-friendly environment, and we’re excited to continue creating opportunities for people across the state and helping them learn the new skills they need to take advantage of those opportunities."
Amazon said that the approximately 585,000-square-foot facility will integrate advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly capabilities under one roof - supported by AWS and AI-powered smart manufacturing systems and robotics. The company said that the facility will produce products used in Amazon fulfillment centers across North America and is expected to launch by 2028.
Amazon said that the following new roles will be coming to the facility:
The company added that the roles earn an average of nearly $100,000 per year.
"Amazon's decision to locate this facility in Indiana is a powerful testament to the strength of our manufacturing workforce, our world-class infrastructure, and our commitment to creating an environment where businesses of all sizes can grow and thrive," said Indiana Governor Mike Braun. "This $100 million investment will bring 300 high-paying, skilled jobs to the community that offers Hoosier families real careers in advanced manufacturing. Indiana has always been a state that builds things, and Amazon's investment reinforces our position as the nation's leader in manufacturing."
