ExOne S-MAX Pro Redefines the Market for Sand Cast 3D Printing

Industrial volume and connectivity boost the digital foundry.

ExOne introduces its newest industrial 3D sand printer for casting, the S-MAX Pro. The company says the new unit is designed for both prototyping and industrial series production. 

S-MAX Pro can achieve printing speeds of up to 135 layers per hour, which adds up to two full 1,800x1,000x700 (mm) job boxes, each with a volume of 1,260 liters, in just 24 hours. New features in this model include a new more efficient printhead and a fully automated recoater. The molding material can be replaced in a quick and straightforward manner, allowing for production of complex parts with various casting materials.

ExOne says two new features make the S-MAX Pro suitable for 24/7 industrial operation: the box-in-box production method, and the ability to connect multiple units into a coherent chain.

A complete update to the controlling hardware and software also provides industrial capabilities. Processes can be monitored using cloud connectivity for flexible and location-independent monitoring. ExOne says the S-MAX Pro is ready for integration into Industry 4.0 operations, which includes the ability to monitor and respond to printing errors. 

In related news, ExOne announces a partnership with Siemens designed to benefit existing customers of both company’s products in foundry, aerospace, automotive, energy and related markets. The Siemens Digital Enterprise Portfolio contains software and automation technology including the MindSphere suite, all implemented on the S-MAX Pro.
