Hyundai Motor Co. this week announced that it will present its vision for the future of robotics and the metaverse under the theme of “Expanding Human Reach” at CES 2022. The Seoul, South Korea-based company said it will explain how its Mobile Eccentric Droid and Boston Dynamics unit are part of its plan to expand beyond transportation into smart mobility for all.
Established in 1967, Hyundai Motor has more than 120,000 employees in over 200 countries with more than 120,000 employees. The company has invested in technologies such as robotics and urban air mobility (UAM).
Hyundai Motor Group completed its acquisition of Boston Dynamics in June. It has also worked with autonomous vehicle developer Motional, which plans to provide robotaxi services with Lyft in Las Vegas in 2023.
Hyundai to share vision of virtual world plus robots
Under its theme of “Expanding Human Reach,” Hyundai Motor said it will share its vision of how robotics will “complete the metaverse by connecting the virtual world with reality as a medium and eventually overcome the physical limitations of movement regarding time and space.”
The company will also exhibit its robot product lineup, including the recently announced Mobile Eccentric Droid (MobED), as well as Boston Dynamics' Spot quadruped robot and Atlas humanoid.
In addition, Hyundai Motor said it will showcase its new PnD (Plug & Drive) robotic module platform under the new “Mobility of Things” (MoT) concept. MoT aims for the provision of mobility in everything — from traditionally inanimate objects to even community spaces.
Presentations to come at CES
Hyundai said visitors to its booth at the international Consumer Electronics Show will be able to see how mobility in the real world can be advanced with robots. The company claimed it will “offer a glimpse of the future robotics society, which will enable transportation between the virtual and real world.”
Hyundai will hold a press event at CES 2022 from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. PST on Jan. 4, 2022, in Room 2F Oceanside D at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. It will also be livestreamed via the company's YouTube channel.
Robotics demonstrations and dance performance programs will also be presented at Hyundai Motor's exhibition booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall No. 5818, from Jan. 5 to 8.
