igus CEO Felix Brockmeyer welcomes guests to the company's new injection molding facility and expanded robotics campus in Rumford, R.I.
RUMFORD, R.I. - German-based motion plastics provider igus celebrated the opening of its new and expanded North American facilities on October 2, adding over 20,000 square feet of injection molding warehouse space to its Rumford, R.I. headquarters.
The opening featured tours of the new injection molding facility - the company’s first outside of Germany - its expanded robotics campus and North American headquarters, containing the company’s warehouse for shipping and receiving.
At the opening, igus CEO Felix Brockmeyer welcomed guests to the campus, highlighting the company’s growth in the Providence suburb. The company has been in Rumford since 1985, and hosts over 500 employees in its North American headquarters.
The injection molding facility is currently situated with 50 machines, with room for triple its current capacity in the new, $200 million facility. At igus’ robotics campus, the company highlighted its RBTX marketplace, with robots developed in-house. The goal, Brockmeyer said, was to continue “developing components that become systems to assemble for igus customers and make automation easier.”
Rhode Island senator Jack Reed and Rhode Island Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner also spoke at the opening, highlighting the company’s continued investment to the state, and Rhode Island’s support of igus.
The company’s warehouse and North American headquarters, located down the street from igus’ new robotics campus and injection molding facility, features a 190,000 square foot facility for shipping and receiving, along with a demo room for the company’s components.
