Körber Supply Chain Announces Robotics as a Service for E-Commerce Fulfillment

The RaaS model can empower businesses to adapt and thrive in an era of growing supply chain complexity, said Körber.

Körber Supply Chain

Körber's RaaS program is intended to make it easy for companies of all sizes and industries to access its network of service partners.
Korber Supply Chain said its new RaaS offering can not only help fulfillment operations keep up with e-commerce demand; it can also help them build mixed fleets of mobile robots.

While e-commerce has continued to grow, labor challenges are top of mind for many supply chain executives, and organizations need to increase their efficiency, flexibility, and scalability, noted Körber. At its Elevate user conference in Orlando, the company yesterday unveiled plans to extend its robotic service partnerships to combine the technology, services, and expertise of top solution providers.

“The autonomous mobile robots [AMRs] sector in particular, has seen tremendous growth in recent years,” explained Joe Couto, executive vice president for robotics and third-party logistics (3PL) at Körber Business Area Supply Chain. “Customers across the globe are looking for solutions in various operational areas to meet spikes in demand and address complexities around labor, safety, and warehouse associates' wellbeing.”

“Körber has made it its mission to help companies worldwide respond to these challenges faster, while keeping fulfillment time and costs as low as possible,” he added. “Körber's flexible robotics and accompanying automation solutions have brought scalable fulfillment operations to numerous customers around the globe, and now we are bringing it to the next level.”

RaaS cuts costs, time to deployment, says Körber

Körber Supply Chain said it provides systems for warehouse management and control, voice, order management, simulation, and robotics, as well as the expertise to tie them all together. The unit of Hamburg, Germany-based Körber claimed that its end-to-end offerings can help customers manage increasing supply chain complexity.

The company said its robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) program will provide simple access to a global network of partners for every business size and industry, reflecting its emphasis on collaboration and serving its customer's needs. The new offering will give customers opportunities to reduce operational costs and time to deployment, said Körber.

With RaaS, customers can purchase robots as a service rather than as one large upfront capital expenditure, the company noted.

Building mixed AMR fleets could get easier

Körber said its new RaaS option aims to allow organizations greater access to AMR capabilities. It should also enable companies to more easily build heterogenous fleets, taking advantage of different mobile robots from multiple Körber partners for different use cases.

“The greatest benefit of working with Körber is seizing the opportunities of the digital era through a single source,” said John Santagate, vice president for robotics and voice at Körber Business Area Supply Chain.

“A lot of organizations continue their investments into automated technologies in the supply chain, but few leverage the potential of integrated solutions,” he said. “More than ever, businesses need a partner with broad capabilities to conquer supply chain complexity.”

Körber Supply Chain will be at ProMat next week at Booth S1547 in Chicago's McCormick Place.
