Yaskawa Motoman announced today that it will be expanding its U.S. headquarters in Miamisburg, Ohio. The company plans to add a 185,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art addition that it said will double the size of the company's production space. Yaskawa plans to use the space to engineer, develop, integrate, and build robotic systems. The space will also be used to retrofit and rebuild previously deployed systems.
Founded in 1989, the Motoman Robotics Division of Yaskawa America, Inc. is one of the leading robotics companies in the Americas. With over 540,000 Motoman robots installed globally, Yaskawa said it provides automation products and solutions for application including arc welding, assembly, coating, dispensing, material handling, material cutting, material removal, packaging, palletizing, and spot welding.
Construction projected to be completed by June 2024
The company said it will create 70 new jobs as part of the addition. Four hundred employees work at the facility now. Yaskawa Motoman plans to begin the construction process in June 2023. Construction is expected to take approximately twelve months, with a projected completion date of June 2024.
“When we built our current 305,000 square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in 2011, we purchased additional land to support our expectation of continued growth,” said Steve Barhorst, president, and chief operating officer at Yaskawa Motoman. “This expansion is the fulfillment of that vision and is the next step in Yaskawa’s growth With labor shortages in the Americas, more companies are turning to automation to meet increased production demands and improve efficiencies. This addition will increase our capacity to support our continued record-breaking growth and enable us to reduce lead times and continue to deliver high quality, innovative robotic solutions to our valued customers and partners.”
City of Miamisburg is helping foot the bill
The company said it is taking advantage of grants from the City of Miamisburg, Montgomery County, and Jobs Ohio to offset building costs. It did not share how much it has received from those funding sources, however.
