NVIDIA makes available a new kind of graphics processing unit-accelerated supercomputer in the cloud on Microsoft Azure. Built to handle demanding artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing applications, the largest deployments of Azure’s new NDv2 instance rank among the world’s fastest supercomputers, offering up to 800 NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs interconnected on a single Mellanox InfiniBand backend network, NVIDIA reports. It enables customers for the first time to rent an entire AI supercomputer on demand from their desk, and match the capabilities of large-scale, on-premises supercomputers that can take months to deploy. “Until now, access to supercomputers for AI…
The Robotic Industries Association (RIA), part of the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), today announced that North American robot unit orders are up 5.2% through the third quarter, compared to 2018 results. So far this year, North American companies have ordered 23,894 robotic units, valued at $1.3 billion. Looking at third-quarter results only, North American companies ordered 7,446 robots, valued at $438 million. Both units ordered and revenue are up 1% in the quarter compared to 2018. The largest driver of the year-to-date growth in units ordered was an increase in orders from automotive OEMs at 47%, followed by plastics…
Siemens has launched and made available the Siemens Additive Manufacturing (AM) Network, following pilots and successful implementations with customers and partners, including Decathlon, Siemens Gas & Power, Siemens Mobility, HP and Materialise. The Siemens AM Network provides an advanced cloud-based solution to foster collaboration and process orchestration between engineers, procurement and suppliers of 3D printed parts. The Siemens Additive Manufacturing Network was to be featured at Formnext 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany. Siemens’ AM Network is designed for enterprises, suppliers and partners that are looking to accelerate the adoption of AM for industrial processes and applications. It digitalizes the order-to-delivery process…
6K, developer of microwave plasma technology for the production of advanced materials used in additive manufacturing, lithium ion batteries and other industrial markets, is debuting its new Onyx In718 premium powder for additive manufacturing. The company is exhibiting Onyx In718 and over 15 other metal alloys, ceramic powders and parts at Formnext in Frankfurt, Germany, November 19-22, 2019, Stand E22 in Hall 12. “Nickel alloy 718, which is critical for aerospace and industrial markets, is the perfect alloy to showcase the unique capability and powerfulness of the 6K powder production process,” says Dr. Aaron Bent, 6K CEO. “We are demonstrating…
Industrial companies now have access to a streamlined, holistic, end-to-end solution for design, automation, production and lifecycle management, thanks to a new strategic partnership between Rockwell Automation and ANSYS. Rockwell Automation, a company dedicated exclusively to industrial automation and information, and ANSYS, simulation software company, announced the partnership at Rockwell Automation's 28th annual Automation Fair in Chicago. ANSYS and Rockwell Automation will help customers develop simulation-based digital twins of products, processes or manufacturing. Now customers can design and test through simulation to accelerate development and analysis, improving product quality and reducing testing time across their organization. “The ANSYS technology, developed…
EOS, supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, is showcasing its Fine Detail Resolution (FDR) technology for processing polymers for the first time at the formnext trade show in Frankfurt, Germany (November 19-22, 2019, hall 11.1, stand D31). EOS has developed a solution for powder-based industrial 3D printing using a CO laser. This will make it possible to produce delicate, robust parts with fine detail resolution surfaces and minimum wall thicknesses of only 0.22 mm, the company says. It will open up new applications for series production and will offer a broader variety to the…
Dyndrite Corporation unveiled its Additive Manufacturing Toolkit (AMT) and accelerated production preparation build processor for 3D printing. The company also announced the “Magic Amnesty Program,” a limited-time offer for premier metal and industrial plastic additive users. Built upon the company’s Accelerated Computation Engine (ACE), a GPU-powered geometry kernel, AMT provides manufacturing-oriented features. Capabilities include native CAD file import for maximum quality of 3D-printed output, as well as an integrated Python application programming interface (API) for customizable scripting of interactive, automated workflows. Dyndrite’s ACE geometry kernel and AMT build processor were designed from the ground up using a “First Principles” approach,…
3D Printing and Logistics The prediction was right: once the printing speed becomes faster, more materials become available, and the associated costs decrease, 3D printing in manufacturing is going to explode. With each passing day, vast improvements in all three categories are occurring, and we’re getting closer to that explosion. Case in point: a report from January 2017 by PWC predicted 3D printing would impact 85% of the spare parts providers surveyed in the next five years, in part due to the increase in materials. Historically, resin and plastics were at the forefront of 3D printing. However, metals have recently…
CNC Software, Inc., developers of CAM software, have launched the Mastercam Signature Parts Series to benefit CAD/CAM manufacturers. The series was initiated to showcase how Mastercam works throughout the manufacturing process using realistic parts. Each part is designed to keep Mastercam Resellers, customers and partners informed about new features, best practices, tips and tricks, and special applications related to the Mastercam product. “The art of machining is more than just CAM. It is process planning, fixture design, tool selection, toolpath creation, machine setup and machining. Our Manufacturing Lab allows us to go through this whole process to truly test our…
BASF 3D Printing Solutions (B3DPS) will be exhibiting at Formnext 2019 sector show for additive-based manufacturing, with an expanded product range and a new brand presence. Sector specialists are invited to meet B3DPS specialists in person from November 19 through 22 at Booth D21, Hall 12.1 at the Frankfurt Trade Fair. With the introduction of its new Forward AM corporate brand, B3DPS continues to pursue its goal of driving industrial scalability as the next phase of additive-based manufacturing, the company says. “Forward” stands for future-oriented, leading-edge materials and technology, while “AM” stands for “additive manufacturing”. As it continued to grow and meet increasing customer demands, ACT Fulfillment, a California-based third-party logistics (3PL) provider, encountered many challenges. From capacity limiting fulfillment volume, to process snags related to labor intensity and high employee turnover, the 3PL knew it needed an automated solution to ensure steady operations. After all, it was averaging 25 units per hour pick-to-ship. Industrial engineer Ryan Cox originally considered a few traditional options, including a post-pick sortation system. But more than 12 months would be necessary for that automation implementation, as it would also require intensive infrastructure changes and came with a starting price…
