SpaceX has gained worldwide attention for a series of historic milestones. It is the only private company ever to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit, which it first accomplished in December 2010. The company made history again in May 2012 when its Dragon spacecraft attached to the International Space Station, exchanged cargo payloads, and returned safely to Earth - a technically challenging feat previously accomplished only by governments. Since then Dragon has delivered cargo to and from the space station multiple times, providing regular cargo resupply missions for NASA.

…eventual human missions, and demonstration of new robotics technologies. NASA's Perseverance rover sent data this week indicating that it has successfully cored its first Martian rock. The initial images showed an intact sample present in the tube, but additional images taken after the robot arm acquiried the sample were inconclusive because of poor sunlight conditions. Another round of images with better lighting will be taken before the sample processing continues, said NASA. The Perseverance mission team decided to obtain additional imagery prior to proceeding with the sealing and storing of rock samples after failing to obtain sufficient material on Aug.…

…Mars settlers! Please print your habitat here. If what NASA envisions becomes a reality, such a sign may very well greet the pioneering earthlings who decide to relocate to Mars. In late 2015, as part of its Centennial Challenges program, NASA held a design competition “to build a 3D-printed habitat for deep space exploration, including the agency’s journey to Mars. The multi-phase challenge is designed to advance the construction technology needed to create sustainable housing solutions for Earth and beyond.” The teams were asked to not only render their concepts in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software but also to “autonomously…

…set in the drone's third flight on April 25. NASA took more pictures with Ingenuity's black-and-white navigation camera and its color camera. The agency said it plans to use some stereo images to create 3D imagery of the Martian surface. Now that Ingenuity has proven that that powered, controlled flight is possible in the thin atmosphere of Mars, its mission will shift. In a new operations demonstration phase, the drone will explore how aerial scouting and other functions could benefit future exploration of Mars and other worlds. Ingenuity to test capabilities This new phase will begin after the helicopter completes…

…the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA JPL) in Pasadena, Calif. “With Ingenuity, we're trying to do the same for Mars.” “Ingenuity is the latest in a long and storied tradition of NASA projects achieving a space exploration goal once thought impossible,” said Steve Jurczyk, acting NASA administrator. “The X-15 was a pathfinder for the space shuttle. Mars Pathfinder and its Sojourner rover did the same for three generations of Mars rovers. We don’t know exactly where Ingenuity will lead us, but today’s results indicate the sky – at least on Mars – may not be the…
