ABB joins Berkshire Grey’s Technology Alliance Program to Deliver AI Enabled Warehouse Robots

Berkshire Grey announced that ABB has joined its Technology Alliance Program, joining other businesses distributing and supporting warehouse robots and AI.

Berkshire Grey Inc. last week said that ABB has joined its Technology Alliance Program to provide more customers with robotics and artificial intelligence that improve improve e-commerce fulfillment throughput and warehouse efficiency—while also driving down operational costs.

The companies said ABB's automation for global e-commerce merchants, retailers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) will complement Berkshire Grey's portfolio of robotics for e-commerce fulfillment, store replenishment, back-of-store order collection, and package handling. They added that they will provide fully integrated systems for customers seeking comprehensive Intelligent Enterprise Robotics (IER) systems to automate warehouse processes.

“Through this collaboration with Berkshire Grey, we provide the flexible, cost-effective warehouse automation solutions our shared customers need to optimize their operations,” said Marc Segura, president of ABB's Robotics Division. “By combining ABB’s specialist robotic systems with Berkshire Grey’s AI, machine vision, sensors, and mechatronics, we give our customers the tools to respond to the continued growth of e-commerce.”

Berkshire Grey builds partnerships

“Berkshire Grey and ABB recognize that supply chain operations need intelligent robotic automation that can adapt to changing demands for higher order volumes, product variability, and faster delivery windows,” said Steve Johnson, president and chief operating officer at Berkshire Grey. “Together, we provide customers with the most advanced AI-enabled robotic solutions that solve the most challenging problems for today’s supply chain and warehouse operations.”

Berkshire Grey provides robots and AI for picking, packing, materials movement, storage, and sortation operations. The Bedford, Mass.-based company said its customers include Global 100 retailers and logistics service providers.

Launched in 2020, Berkshire Grey’s Partner Alliance (BGPA) program includes a select group of partners that provide scalable systems designed to improve fulfillment throughput while driving down operational costs. 

In March 2022, the company said it teamed up with OSARO Inc. for automated bagging systems. It is also working with Swisslog Holding AG on technology for order fulfillment. In May, Berkshire Grey partnered with Logistex to distribute its products in the U.K.

ABB Robotics adds automation applications

ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation systems for industries ranging from automotive and electronics to logistics. The company said it has shipped more than 500,000 robots for the connected and collaborative factory of the future. ABB Robotics employs more than 11,000 people at over 100 locations in more than 53 countries.

Last year, ABB acquired ASTI Mobile Robotics Group, adding mobile robots to its portfolio of industrial automation.

Berkshire Grey noted that it has extensive experience in incorporating ABB robotics technology into enterprise-scale systems in production environments. Together, the companies said they will help customers improve the efficiency and flexibility of warehouse and supply chain operations and prepare them for future needs and demands.
