BlueStar rolling out warehouse robotics solution from Exotec

Exotec, a provider of an automated storage & retrieval solution based on warehouse robotics technology, has announced that BlueStar, a leading global distributor of solutions-based digital identification, mobility, point-of-sale, and RFID technologies, is rolling the Exotec Skypod system at DCs in Europe and the United States. Via this partnership, BlueStar aims to increase performance, flexibility, safety, and efficiency in its warehousing operations.

Exotec explained that since BlueStar opened its EMEA Distribution Center in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 2019, BlueStar has experienced consistent growth while maintaining its commitment to providing more efficient service. To meet increasing demand and customer expectations, the company decided to expand its infrastructure and optimise its processes by engaging Exotec to deliver its Skypod system for warehouse fulfillment.

Skypod is a goods-to-person system that supports operators in picking orders, Exotec explained. The system in Eindhoven for BlueStar includes 20 Skypod robots, racking with 23,000 bins, three picking stations, and one bin interface. The implementation of Skypod for order picking and packing has significantly reduced the time between item retrievals and reduced warehouse traffic by 60%, creating a safer environment, and brought a more ergonomic and less physically demanding work environment for the operators, Exotec added.

“We are very pleased with the robust and efficient implementation of the Exotec solution,” says Manel Baranera, BlueStar’s EMEA COO. “This investment has significantly enhanced our logistical capabilities, enabling us to process daily orders efficiently, regardless of their volume or complexity.”

Jan Heijblom, Senior Sales Executive at Exotec, added, “We take pride in supporting BlueStar’s optimised expansion and enhancing workplace safety for its employees.”
