Chang Industrial and Hai Robotics have announced an advanced manufacturing consortium to jointly offer storage systems, reduce waste packaging, and serve new markets.

Chang Industrial and Hai Robotics yesterday announced the formation of a strategic partnership targeting North American manufacturers. Chang Industrial has built a consortium of engineering and supply chain partners including Hai Robotics, a leading global provider of automated storage and retrieval systems, or ASRS. The partners said they aim to improve flexibility and sustainability in manufacturing offerings.

The collaboration is intended “to optimize all aspects of the value chain, from concept to execution, with emphasis on autonomous systems, workforce optimization, and improved information communication technology for our North American manufacturers,” said Chang Industrial.

“This partnership allows us to provide the most flexible and cost-effective supply chain technology to our customers and adapt to their changing environment on a real-time basis augmented by AI and machine learning,” said Chris Callura, vice president of operations and strategic partnerships at Chang Industrial, in a release. “The offerings from Hai Robotics equip the team with standalone and mixed fleet capabilities that are integral to Chang Industrial's successful engineering and program delivery.”

ASRS provides 'modern storage density,' says Hai Robotics

“Hai Robotics is thrilled to collaborate with Chang Industrial to jointly innovate new solutions to automate factories and improve supply chain performance,” stated Will McInnis, technical sales and automation advisor at Hai Robotics.

The Fremont, Calif.-based company said its ASRS provides modern storage density, reaching 32 ft. in height. Hai Robotics said its systems can reduce customer's storage footprints up to 75%, increasing workflow efficiency gains up to 4x, maximizing order pick accuracy by over 99.9%, and improve the fulfillment rate for daily orders to more than 170%.

Hai Robotics said its Autonomous Case-handling Robots (ACR) are the key equipment in its systems. These robots maximize the use of vertical space and are independent of any storage medium, the company claimed.

It added that this allows ;the ASRS to be constructed of almost any industry-standard racking structure with most kinds and sizes of bins, trays, cardboard cartons, and a variety of containers and materials.

Last week, Hai Robotics also announced a strategic partnership with Körber for global distribution of its ACR systems.

Chang Industrial co-founds manufacturing consortium

Founded in 2017, Chang Industrial specializes in advanced manufacturing and disruptive technologies. The Jacksonville Beach, Fla.-based engineering firm said it seeks to modernize supply chains and assist the workforce by creating road maps for companies to advance their technology initiatives.

Chang Industrial was named the eighth fastest-growing company in Northeast Florida by the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2022.

In forming the advanced manufacturing consortium, Chang Industrial and Hai Robotics said they plan to deliver “innovative turnkey solutions” to customers worldwide and develop new business together. The companies said they expect to add new partners to the consortium, plan events, and further enhance capabilities.

The partnership's stated goal is to eliminate packaging waste and plastic storage from most aspects of the supply chain and operations. “Sustainability ... means more profits for clients and measurable improvements for the environment,” said Chang Industrial.

In addition to manufacturing, the consortium will target healthcare, food processing, consumer products, retail, and wholesale distribution, the partners said.

Matthew Chang had the opportunity to speak at Eastgate's 2023 Annual Meeting about Automation and Logistics -- sharing his expertise on innovating technologies in the supply chain and distribution industry.
