LAS VEGAS - Contract logistics provider GXO Logistics, Inc. recently announced it is partnering with California-based robotics developer Dexterity to pilot AI-enhanced robotics at a beauty brand’s warehouse.

“We’re leading the charge on integrating automation into our customers’ supply chains to help them grow and meet their strategic objectives,” said Adrian Stoch, chief automation officer at GXO. “This pilot is especially exciting as it combines advanced robotics with artificial intelligence and machine learning into a practical application to make warehouse operations safer, more productive and more efficient.”

AI-enhanced robots in the warehouse

GXO is working with Dexterity, to develop robots with human-like capabilities to depalletize, label, and repalletize packages. Because Dexterity’s robots function using AI, they do not require instructions or setup prior to implementation. The robots self-train on the job, improving their performance in real time with each pick. GXO said deploying robotics for depalletizing and repalletizing increases operational efficiency and safety, while freeing up employees to focus on higher-value activities.

“GXO is at the forefront of using technology to enable superior operations performance,” said Samir Menon, Dexterity CEO. “We are proud to support them with robots that are smart, fast, and easy for their team to deploy in their warehouse operations.”

Dexterity said its robots’ adaptability means they can be deployed across a range of industries. The company’s products can be deployed either as standalone robots in operations which were previously manual, or in a highly-automated warehouse.

At Manifest on Feb. 6, GXO and Dexterity co-hosted a panel entitled “Accelerating Warehouse Evolution: Using AI to Unleash Robotic Operations” where the two organizations discussed the partnership and the challenges of AI-robotics in warehouse operations.
