Shikino High-Tech and e-con Systems

E-con Systems will improve compliance, certification, and address Japanese markets, while Shikino will offer its products through e-con’s portfolio to U.S. and European customers.

Embedded camera provider e-con Systems and Japanese electronics provider Shikino High-Tech recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on promotion and sales expansion of embedded camera modules globally.

Combining e-con’s camera portfolio and Shikino’s deep market reach in Japan, the companies said their collaboration will explore tailored business channels and localization strategies to address market-specific requirements such as compliance and certification.

The companies plan to sell embedded camera modules for retail, robotics, mobility, smart agriculture, IT services, and medical applications.

This partnership reinforces the commitment of both companies to deliver smart, market-ready embedded machine vision and computer vision systems that meet the evolving demands of customers worldwide.

Shikino to expand globally through e-con

Shikino High-Tech is an electronics manufacturer specializing in embedded industrial cameras, semiconductor inspection and testing, and large-scale integration (LSI) processor design and development.

Shikino’s products include USB-based view cameras, sensing cameras capable of image processing and edge AI, and custom cameras developed based on customer requests.

“We are very honored to form a business alliance with e-con Systems,” said Shinichi Takahashi, Shikino High-Tech executive director. “Our company has been expanding its business in the Japanese market by flexibly responding to various customer demands. However, the demands of the camera module market have been expanding and diversifying in recent years.

“By enhancing our lineup with camera products from e-con Systems that we do not have, and combining them with our support capabilities, we expect to offer new and attractive proposals to our Japanese customers,” Takahashi added. “E-con Systems has a wide network and is expanding its business mainly in the European and American markets. We will expand our global business by offering our products as part of e-con Systems' portfolio.”

E-con to benefit from Shikino’s Japanese market knowledge

E-con systems has designed, developed, and manufactured OEM cameras since 2003. With over 20 years of experience in embedded vision, the Fremont, Calif.-based company’s cameras include time-of-flight (ToF), MIPI, GMSL, USB 3.1 Gen 1, stereo, GigE, low light, and more

E-con Systems' cameras are currently embedded in over 350 customer products, and it has shipped over two million cameras to the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other countries.

“The embedded vision market is rapidly evolving, but companies still face major challenges - from regional compliance complexities to the need for deeply localized product support and faster deployment cycles,” said Harishankkar Subramanyam, e-con Systems co-founder & VP of business development. “Our partnership with Shikino is a strategic response to these challenges.

“By combining our strengths in camera technology with Shikino’s regional market insights and customer proximity, we are better positioned to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions to the Japanese market,” Subramanyam added. “This collaboration enables us to effectively address critical applications such as mobility, ITS, precision agriculture, medical diagnostics devices, robotics, and smart retail, ensuring faster time-to-market and seamless system integration.”
