Earlier this month, Smart Robotics launched its “newly engineered” Smart Parcel Picker, building on its product line of pick-and-place systems.

“This picking robot is designed to depalletize and unload an array of containers with parcels, varying in size, surface material, and weight,” the company wrote in a blog post. “The Smart Parcel Picker is able to do this at business case-friendly throughput and performance – replacing physically straining and repetitive work for warehouse employees at times that the industry is also experiencing growing labor shortages.”

The Eindhoven, Netherlands-based company said the picker can be integrated into existing warehouse management systems and was designed to be used by third-party logistics companies and other e-commerce customers. Thanks to its AI capabilities, the robot can also be taught to adapt to a number of different workflows, it added.

“Taking into account the strenuous tasks warehouse employees perform when moving large goods, the robot can handle a large variety of objects whilst replacing the rigid activities for employees,” the company said.

Positive feedback from customers during the development phase

“We are very excited to finally offer The Smart Parcel Picker to the wider market! The customers who have been working with it during its development unanimously report that the Smart Parcel Picker is well ahead of others in the space due to its versatility and ability to pick such a large variety of items at high speed, Johan Jardevall, CEO of Smart Robotics, said in a statement.

Founded in 2015, Smart Robotics sells several other pick-and-place products, including the Smart Item Picker and Smart Palletizer, which comprise collaborative robots with various end-of-arm tools. The company recently expanded its Smart Palletizer line to better optimize for box stacking.

The company has lofty goals hoping to one day to “replace all manual pick and place stations in the world.”

“In 2015, Smart Robotics started at a small office at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven,” the company wrote on its website. “Nowadays, we are situated in our head office in Best, in the middle of the high-tech region Brainport.

“After our start, Smart Robotics was quickly noticed within the industry. Nowadays, you can find our pick-and-place robots all over the world and we have developed a strong partner network within Europe and beyond,” it added.
