Mujin controls random bin picking

Mujin showed its random bin-picking system at Automate because it’s a major application in the manufacturing sector, Josh Cloer, director of sales at the Tokyo-based company, told Robotics 24/7.

Mujin said it has already deployed hundreds of the systems in the Asia-Pacific region.

“This is a big application in the automotive space,” Cloer said. “We wanted to show North America that, ‘Hey we do this to. Here’s our latest and greatest software package, and the user interface side of things.’”

He explained that the demonstration showed how an integrator partner can take the company’s software and make it work as part of a robotic workcell.

In a press release about the bin-picking system, Mujin noted that it features a “no-code” programming interface and can pick and place items from any orientation. It also includes a general-purpose robot controller that the company said allows the robot to consider its surroundings and environment.

“The future of robotics will be powered by intelligent robot controllers that can leverage the environment and make autonomous decisions, and we are glad to open this technology up to the market through the Mujin Controller,” stated Ross Diankov, co-founder and CEO of Mujin.
