Addverb Technologies Designs Medius Multilevel Carton Shuttle to Optimize Micro-Fulfillment

Addverb Technologies recently announced the launch of Medius, its new multilevel carton shuttle system. The company said Medius can perform the functions of storage and retrieval on multiple levels. Businesses can increase storage density and deliver goods faster with the scalable and modular system, said Addverb.

“The lines between traditional retail and e-commerce are becoming increasingly gray, which forces the need to engineer and empower warehouses with resilient and innovative technologies,” said Sriram Sridhar, chief revenue officer for the Americas at Addverb.

“At Addverb, we are in constant pursuit of providing a range of technologies to balance throughput and storage capacity challenges for omnichannel retailers and provide customers with a partner they can trust to offer such solutions,” he said.

Addverb provides robots, material handling technologies, in-house system-integration services, and artificial intelligence for warehouse opeations. The company's headquarters, manufacturing, and research and development facilities are in India, with subsidiaries in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Australia.

The more than 100 current customers of Addverb include Reliance, Unilever, Flipkart, Coca-Cola, Pepsico, Johnson & Johnson, and PAR Pharmaceutical.

Medius designed for fast, dense storage and retrieval

Addverb Technologies said Medius' design is based on goods-to-person principles, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), and carton shuttles. It claimed that Medius will “enable agile, ergonomic order-fulfillment processes” by providing “warehouses and distribution centers with alternatives to carton shuttles and crane-based systems for balanced throughput, investment, and storage capacity.”

Optimizing the use of space within a warehouse, Medius can operate at seven levels up to 3.7 m (12 ft.) high, with the ability to add more aisles by combining multiple multilevel systems (MLS), said Addverb. It can automate the storage and retrieval of cartons or totes, the company said.

Medius features a storage capacity of 255,000 crates, double-deep tote picking, and the ability to travel horizontally and vertically with 35 to 40 double cycles per hour, Addverb said. This can help businesses seeking safe, rapid, and efficient robots for delivering goods, noted the company.

Addverb also cited the following features of Medius:

Integration with any warehouse execution system (WES) or warehouse management system (WMS)
High-SKU system for industries such as e-commerce, pharmaceutical, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG)
Low maintenance without disrupting other MLS operations
Increased efficiency with high throughput and an ability to store and retrieve

In addition to being able to operate on Addverb's own software-integration systems, Medius is equipped with an automatic braking system and features an IP24 rating, allowing for grocery warehouse and distribution center operations, said the company.

Addverb looks to continue global expansion

With the unveiling of its newest multi-level-shelving system, Addverb Technologies said its portfolio of fixed and flexible automation continues to grow. Earlier this year, the company announced its expansion into North America and South America, and it established partnerships for the e-commerce market.

The global ASRS market could grow from $7.15 billion in 2021 to $11.1 billion by 2030 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1%, according to QuadIntel. More bullish, Market Reports World forecast growth from $12.4 billion in 2017 to $22.6 billion by 2023 at a CAGR of 10.18%.

Mordor Intelligence predicted that the North American ASRS market alone could grow from $3.8 billion in 2020 to $5.8 billion in 2026 at a CAGR of 9.01%. The research firms agreed that the rise of e-commerce, real estate costs, and the need for inventory control are driving adoption.
