ATI Industrial Automation today announced that its Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensors are compatible with FANUC's robots and Force Control Software. “This collaboration opens up new possibilities for advanced automation and precision control in robotic applications,” said the Apex, N.C.-based company.

ATI Industrial Automation claimed that it is “the world’s leading engineering-based developer of robotic accessories and robot arm tooling including multi-axis force/torque (F/T) sensing systems, material removal tools, utility couplers, manual tool changers, robotic collision sensors, and compliance devices. The Novanta Inc. unit said its robotic end effectors are used in thousands of applications around the world.
ATI's flagship product is its Robotic Tool Changer, a wrist coupling that locks and unlocks automatically, allowing a single robot to perform many different tasks. Leading organizations including NASA, Ford, Honda, and Johns Hopkins University use the company's products.
ATI F/T Sensors enable precise tasks
ATI Industrial Automation said the integration of its Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensors with FANUC's hardware and software will enable users to achieve greater levels of accuracy, flexibility, and responsiveness. Integrators and manufacturers will be able to take advantage of the enhanced sensing capabilities, it said.
ATI said its F/T Sensors can “provide accurate measurements of forces and torques in multiple axes, enabling robots to have a sense of touch and allowing them to perform delicate tasks with dexterity.” The company explained that it designed these sensors to withstand harsh industrial environments, ensuring reliable operation in a wide range of applications.
FANUC's Force Control Software allows for precise motion control based on real-time force feedback for tasks such as assembly, deburring, polishing, and material removal, noted the companies. The combination of ATI's sensors and FANUC's products will facilitate robotics interactions in research and development, medical applications, industrial operations, and even extraterrestrial missions, said ATI.
